Devlog #5 6 Speed Transmission
I’m starting to polish all the models so they can be 3d printed. I’m first thinking of tolerance and subtracting 0.2 mm on all moving parts and minimizing plastic on plastic contact. I already made a custom bearing prototype that I’m going to print tonight to see if it works. I also started assembling everything with screws and bearings and axles to get an idea for how many parts I need to set aside for the whole build.
I still need to figure out how to stop each ring gear in the planetary gearboxes to shift gears. I’m thinking of a rotary shifter with 3 servo motors but that’s for after I’m done with the actual transmission.

Devlog #4 6 Speed Transmission
Finished with the initial CAD, The gearbox that connects the motors to the transmission is polished but the whole transmission now needs filleting and chamfering so it looks better and runs with less friction. I also need to rename all the parts and sort everything into folders so people who want to build it can copy easily.

Devlog #3 6 Speed Transmission
A ton of progress from the last devlog, I had to iterate on the gearbox ratios since I mistakenly link the gearboxes from greatest ratio to lowest ratio instead of going from lower to highest. This fixes excessive torque so the input into the transmission doesn’t break the entire thing.
I started working on the input clutches and decided to make a custom bearing assembly for more fluid movements in the transmission.
I’ll be making small prototypes to ensure each part of the transmission works correctly before I print everything out and assemble it.

Devlog #2 6 Speed Transmission
I finally got the hang of planetary gearboxes! For this devlog entry, I was able to link 2 planetary gearboxes together to make a 2 speed transmission (a really nice starting point considering I learned how transmissions work today). The way this works is the furthest planetary gearbox is supposed to be the one with the highest gear ratio out of all the planetary gearboxes (I need a total of 3!) The next devlog will hopefully be 3 planetary gearboxes connected and 3 different gears I can shift into! Another think I need to improve on is the size, I’d really like it to be a smaller form factor so I can keep it on my desk after I build it :D

Devlog #1 6 Speed Transmission
I first got started with doing some background research on what typical automatic transmissions consist of. I read about how the main components are planetary gearboxes.
I decided to CAD one and animate it so I could see how one works. Below is the current progress of the automatic transmission. The gears are purposely made helical to handle torque heavy applications
The next steps I’d like to take is to utilize my understanding of planetary gearboxes and create a more intricate and efficient Automatic Transmission.

Devlog #4 PxlSwrv using A301 Motors
I’m now basically done with this project. Today I just inverted the master module so I could create a beautiful 4 wheel configuration. Everything is sorted and awesome so it’s ready to be shipped now!

Devlog #3 PxlSwrv Using A301 Motors
So I’m posting this on the same day as DevLog #2 since I was bored and just decided to get the rendering and finishing touches out of the way.
I spent most of my time refining the details in the model to make it look presentable. I also did more organizing on the files so you can now sort through screws, hardware, and custom made parts.
Check it out on the Onshape link!
Also this is my first time really putting in effort on a render so I hope yall like it :)

Devlog #2 PxlSwrv Using A301 Motors
I got a lot more done today than I was expecting to get done.
I finished the full v1 assembly and every part lines up and works perfectly.
I also organized all the parts neatly into folder so now it’s ready for public access!
Tomorrow, I’ll work on the promotion component and render it using Fusion 360 to make it look extra nice :)
Don’t expect this to be the last version as I want to keep creating new and more innovative drivetrains in the future!

Devlog #1 PxlSwrv using A301 Motors
Today I was able to get used to the new First Tech Challenge A301 Motors which will soon be releasing in 2027.
I first started by making an adapter from the A301’s 15T Spine to the Gobilda 8mm REX Shaft, a shaft collar, and a basic axle.
Then I sketched up a nice base for the swerve drive to take form on. I attached motors and a bearing.
I finally created the spinning pod’s base, wheel, and tires.
Tomorrow I’ll be working on creating a way for the wheel to move using one of the motors attached on the base.
