A nasa APOD image fetching website but in comic sans :)

Ship #1 Pending review

SHIP! :yay:

I made a website using VITE and javascript modules to fetch data from the NASA APOD API :blahaj-heart:
The hackclub logo and github logos are copy pasted from external sources, otherwise all AI or external code is duly mentioned(like 2~3 lines?) :goog:

  • The date picker works! And I guess it was fun stardancing :)

NOTE FOR REVIEWERS-

Currently the NASA APOD API is facing some backend problems due to which all information is being reverted back to the original boilerplate nasa logo and description!

Check the documentation HERE.
Also please refer to the console giving full info on what is being fetched!

Final Devlog:siren-real:

Completed project!
I modified a lot of code in this one, for example making the fetch part a function so it can be recalled!
Please check devlogs for more info! :)
Guess that’s how I end stardance :salut:

Devlog 4 :fear-cat:

Ok so not much “visual” progress to show this instance, but I worked with a lot of stuffs behind the scenes. :uuh:

  • Added commenting :comment :fah:
  • Added two customs fonts locally :jamegam-jump:
  • Fixed the css? Idk it wasn’t working properly so had to revert a commit for some reason :goog:

What my thought was to add a clock and make it a fixed height website ig, I wanted to add search bar features but I don’t think I have the time to do that :(

DEVLOG 3 :prayer:

Well Well Well, look what we have, the NASA APOD api is facing some problems in the meanwhile, so every date is currently showing the same boilerplate logo and text and title, unfortunately I do not have the time and resources right now to use another API :3D-SAD-EMOJI:

  • Made the fetch endeavor a function so I can call it once at the first run_time(loading) and second time when the (#datepicker)’s .value is changed. :time-is-ticking:
  • Made it so it checks if it is a i.e. a youtube link too. :youtube:
  • Tried changing to the community version instead but it is api free so can’t use that it :noooovanish:

Am not sure what I am going to do but I will just finish this asap for now :fear-cat:

Devlog-2 :nasa-logo-nasa: :pet-2-petpheus:

Done with the “JavaScript” :js: part, just gonna have to add a event listener on the date-picker(input html tag) to refetch data when the user changes it.

  • Date by default is 2024-02-11, which was an exceptional error by the APOD api backend, :heh: used ai for researching ts(Searched when it was started so I could put that date as default but ig this works too). :shrug3d:
  • Also one more thing is that the APOD api doesn’t have a image ready for timezones above the GMT timeline that day! So a default date is necessary so as to maintain uniform experience for everyone :woooo:
  • Well I also imported the 2 fonts, one is from a insta reel I found and the second if from Augie’s jame gam YSWS website :goog: :thumbs-up: very cool
  • I did more stuff too ig? Imported some assets and other stuff too :sha-yawn:

Anyways today is the last date to ship it so gotta lock in :salute-ios:

Okay so I forgot I did not devlog :sk:

Devlog-1 :nasa-logo-nasa: :sans:

Welcome back to yet another Nasa APOD image fetching website! Wow so original…. :uhm:

  • Completed Setup + Vite Setup :vite:
  • Created .env and setup deployment via Github pages :tuff:
  • MADE(Forcibly) SURE the branch name was “Main” and not “Master” :istg:
  • Completed the basic fetch feature + Created a simple navbar and header for the website itself.
  • Also did a lot of more stuff I forgot about?

Also I should probably mention how I am going to make it different (atleast visually and in somewhat functionality ig)

  1. Use Comic sans font :sho: :verity_original-55:
  2. Don’t make it bad :shrug3d:
  3. Use this one cinematic font locally, I found on a instagram reel :peak:
  4. Maybe add a search bar feature using google.com :galaxy-brain:
Anyways, enough larp, ending devlog 1 :tuff:
