Devlog 14

  1. I updated KuuppaVid, so now you can actually search YouTube videos! (I used some help from AI)
  2. I also updated KuuppaMusic! Now you can listen to Estonia’s radio station XFM! (idk why I picked it) And when you minimize it, the song title shows up in the taskbar! Also it has a cool radio animation. (I used a tutorial for the base of the custom player)
  3. I fixed many window bugs (like when resizing the window could go out of bounds).
  4. I updated terminal so now (some of) the commands are better and more up to date.
  5. I also added an info app, but it currently has no content.

KuuppaOS is now almost completed!

Devlog 13

  1. I added a camera app. You can take photos and they save to your device. (I used a tutorial for help)
  2. I added a new game. It’s a game I made in a coding class a while back. It’s a pacman like game where you run from ghosts. Your objective is to shoot the ghosts from WASD and you move from arrow keys.
  3. I also fixed some bugs.

This is a smaller update.

  1. I added tooltips to desktop app icons (text that shows up when you hover over the icons).
  2. I updated the header on apps so you can now drag the apps around easier.
  3. I fixed some bugs and changed some styling, like changing Hacking terminal’s name to HackCMD (I also changed the icon).
  4. I added a normal terminal (inspired by @Makkonen ‘s LuckyOS terminal, go check his projects out!). It’s not finished, but you can type “help” to see all currently available commands!

Devlog 9

  1. I added a customization menu/settings. You can add a custom wallpaper and change app blur and transparency (i used help from github copilot for javascript). The settings app “icon” is currently in the taskbar, I might change it later.
  2. I added a working browser (with a little help from AI for javascript). It uses iframe so it can’t load all sites, but now you can have KuuppaOS in KuuppaOS in KuuppaOS :D
  3. Lastly I added google fonts to the site. Currently it’s only in the settings app and one button so I will add more. I will also make the desktop icons scale better for different sizes of screens.

Devlog 8

I’m starting webos 2 and after it this webos will be pretty good.

  1. I added a hacking terminal (inspired by @Makkonen ‘s hacking terminal project. I used the same tutorial as him, but I removed all the useless code. I used github copilot to make it so you don’t type the full code snippet with every key press.

  2. I updated KuuppaVid. You can now watch any YT video with it if you enter the video ID. Javascript for it was made with github copilot.

  3. I added a painting app (inspired by @Makkonen ) using a tutorial I found. You can change the size and color of the pen and use the eraser. I found another tutorial I used for the download function (yes you can download your painting!) and then I used github copilot for the date in the file name. I also used github copilot to fix the bug where the drawing would not appear at your cursor.

  4. I also updated the OS with a new font and I removed the “open all windows” button from the taskbar! Also clicking the desktop icon again no longer closes the app.

Next devlog i’m gonna add a customization menu!

Ship #1

I made a webos for the webos 1 mission. It has draggable, resizable and closable windows, desktop icons, a bottom bar with a working clock and an open all windows button. There is six apps: Welcome which is just the welcome screen, TeXtpad which is a notepad, but it only supports one note at a time and it saves it locally to your browser, Weather which shows your local temperature, location and weather condition as an emoji and as text, Clock which is just an analog clock, KuuppaMusic (spotify) which plays the “lofi beats” spotify playlist from the spotify embed (it only plays the first 30s of every song) and KuuppaVid (YouTube) which plays Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley from the YouTube embed. Github copilot is used for fixing some problems and for help and instructions for features like the weather app and autoplay when you open KuuppaVid.

Okay this is actually the final devlog. I added spotify(kuuppamusic) and youtube(kuuppavid) apps. They don’t really have any purpose but I still added them. From the spotify app you can listen to lofi beats, but because it’s an embed it doesn’t even play the full song. From the youtube app you can watch Never gonna give you up by Rick Astley (i didn’t know what else to put). For the youtube app i used github copilot to make the function to start autoplay only when the app is opened. I also updated readme. Now the project is ready to ship.

Final devlog before first ship. Updated readme and added weather forecast emoji and location show with the help of github copilot. The location may or may not work depending on your device, it worked on my phone but i couldn’t get it working with my steam deck. I also fixed the problem where the clock app icon was bigger than the others. The weather now also updates every 10 mins.

Finished the last part of the WebOS mission guide. I added a weather app (I got instructions from copilot in vs code), a clock app (I found a tutorial online), made all windows resizable, fixed some bugs (hopefully) like taskbar being too long and the website being too tall so the scroll bar would always show. I also fixed the bug where you could drag windows and then you couldn’t reach them (with a little help from copilot in vscode). The resize thing is kinda hidden in the window border but you can see it a little.

Finally finished the fourth part of the WebOS mission guide. I had some problems with scripts for the new app so I used github copilot in vscode to fix some. Yes, i also added a second app! It’s not the best but it’s like notepad but worse (atleast right now). It only supports one note at a time, but at least it saves locally to your browser so hopefully you don’t lose your one note :D. It also has a desktop icon that opens and closes the app. Many things will change later, like all the 100+ meaningless commits that actually will hopefully stop right NOW, because I got a new way to test the site without deploying: Live server vs code extension. I guess that’s all for now

Finally completed the third part of the WebOS mission guide (it took so long because I had problems with customization). Made the top bar a bottom bar and added rounded corners, you can now drag the window from the window title (tell me how to make the title smaller and centered while the close button being in the right corner because that stopped working when I made the two divs be at the same row) you can also close it from the red close button and you can reopen it from the bottom bar. I also changed the welcome screen a little. Also the code is now split in three parts.

Just finished the second part of the WebOS mission guide. Now it has top bar with working clock(and font and blur), wallpaper, welcome window with colored background and dashed border with rounded corners. I also added a second link to the welcome screen. Starting to look better already.

I just finished the first part of the WebOS mission guide (and started the second). I will still probably edit the welcome screen after this devlog. There’s nothing special about this yet, but it has a font, text and background color, image with custom size and rounded corners, link to stardance website and text.
