Ship Changes requested

This project is a website featuring, at this moment, one game: Minesweeper. In the future, more games will be added. The challenging part of this was the fact that I’ve never worked with html, and only have experience with javascript through code.org. This meant I had to google how to do a lot of things along the way. Additionally, the canvas data using a one-dimensional array made the logic difficult to figure out. I’m proud of how I managed to go from not knowing html to making a functional minesweeper game that anyone can playing. Play-testers don’t need any information to test, as upon clicking either button, instructions are shown. Anything unclear would be a game/web design problem on my end.

Dev. Log 12: Added information to minesweeper, changed button colors, and fixed some bugs that came up in playtesting. When winning, the info changes to a win message and the button for minesweeper changes to gold. Snake is not ready, but site should be ready to ship with just minesweeper.

Dev. Log 11: Drastically changed graphics. I see no real big problem with how it looks right now so it might stay like this. Minesweeper still lacks a win screen and snake needs gameplay. After both of those are implemented, this should be ready to ship.

Dev. Log 10: Minesweeper is finished. At least, it seems finished. I haven’t found any major bugs, and aside from a missing win-screen, everything is added. Clicking “Z” over a square digs, and “X” places a flag. “R” resets the board, and to restart after hitting a mine you press “Z”. Next step is likely improving the design of the page, as right now it’s just the default black-on-white text. READ-ME not updated yet, it will likely be the last step.

Dev. Log 9: Clicking ‘z’ while hovering over a minesweeper square now spawns a board, with that tile having 0 adjacent mines. Additionally, tile number logic now works and a bug was fixed where by spawning a board with one already active, the numbers wouldn’t be wiped and more mines would spawn in and flags would appear.

Dev. Log 8: A fool I was to expect good news twice in a row. True that art is now functional, however true too it is that my mine generation is uber-broken, sometimes spawning a bajillion mines and always making numbers innaccurate.

Dev. Log 7: Nothing but good news****! Firstly, board is now the correct color. Secondly, mine generation works. Thirdly, squares are colored to match the color of the number indicating adjacent mines (1 is green, 2 is yellow, so on…). Implementing Pixel Art won’t be hard at all now. HOWEVER, two pieces of sliiiightly bad news. FIRSTLY: The mine generation, despite prooobably being the exact same in and out of the PrepareThineSweeper function, seemed to only work inside the function. This was likely a stupid error that I think I fixed though so it shouldn’t be a problem. SECONDLY: I have not yet looked into mouse input. It shouldn’t be that bad I assume. Next update shouldn’t be anything huge, just adding pixel art and making the mine and board generation different functions.

Dev. Log 6: A BREAKTHROUGH! Finally, I have found a way to scale up an ImageData such that I can display a 101x101 board on a 404x404 canvas. Right now, I just have placeholders. I plan on making an int array with data needed for pixel art later. I do not need to worry about that logic at this moment so I will simply ignore it until it becomes relevant :)

Dev. Log 5: Good news: board has been scaled up. Bad news: Not really. The logic isn’t as I’d like it. Preferably, I make a tiny board with pixel art for everything, and scale it up. What I have now is, put simply, not that.

Dev. Log 4: The board turns green when SNAKE is clicked, and light tan when MINESWEEPER is clicked. Although this isn’t too much, having ImageData working means that now I can focus on logic rather than technical stuff.

Dev. Log 3: Got rid of java code from repo which wasn’t going to end up getting used, and tried to learn js and html. It ended up turning into an hour of fumbling around with canvas and ImageData stuff, which did not end up working. Going to have to return to them eventually to display boards.

Dev. Log 2: Started learning HTML and CSS, and started main page for displaying the games. Minesweeper is made in Java, so it will have to be rewritten in js. That is the next task I have planned.

Dev. Log 1: Declared variables for future use. No element of the game is made quite yet, but most of what I’ll need for the logic of the game is made. Based on how making minesweeper via terminal input and png output didn’t work very well, I’ll likely have to learn new libraries for Snake.
