I think I’m learning a lot about aerospace while building this drone and it’s really helping me consider what industry, what specialty in aerospace I want to go into.

Today I took out my spare flight board and started harvesting wires from it and harvested the vibration managing 3D printed case and put it on our main power and flight controller board. I tried to strip down the drone frame to reduce weight. It somewhat worked. I took the camera off of it because I probably wouldn’t be using that. I tried mounting the 3D printed case on the drone. That didn’t really work so I’m going to have to make a custom case but my friend is working on that. Hopefully we can buy a battery soon, fingers crossed!

Devlog 0: Radio Survey Drone
This project has been in the works for a really long time. I’ve been working on this project alongside @jotheexplorer123. We’ve been basing our design off a frame that we already have, adding hardware and changing the structure of the base. From the design portion, we’ve been laying out our hardware, finding ways to mount it, CAD’ing, and using iterative design simulations for an optimized payload frame. On the hardware side of things, we’ve been figuring out compatibility between parts, configuring Ardupilot, and porting Linux onto our microcontroller.

As I finished wiring the matrix of my 3x3 MacroPad, I realised that the HackPad microcontroller did not have enough pins to accommodate this. I then realised that my LCD screen is also wired to the wrong pin so I decided to take out the bottom three keys. Now I should have enough space to run my VCC, SCL, and SDA ports for the screen. I’m a little frustrated with myself for not realising this earlier. It would have saved a lot of time but I’m glad I caught it before I sent this PCB off.

Ship Changes requested

I was very excited when I got my first RTL-SDR and I could see the whole radio spectrum but I had to mainly scroll through hundreds and thousands of frequencies. I made a tool that lets a Python script access your RTL-SDR and scan frequencies and return the signal strength in decibels . Returning specific traffic or just for general traffic monitoring over a wide spectrum . It returns a JSON file in the same directory that looks like this:
