MagniAssist is a pocket sized, magnet mountable, smart speaker. It has a built in microphone that listens to your commands such as setting timers and asking questions. Its compact size and its magnetic back allows you to snap it on any surface. The goal of this project is to reduce daily hassles by creating a hands free smart assistant.

After roughly ~16 hours of 3D modelling, the enclosure for MagniAssist is finally done! During this session other than cleaning up the final design to make it look better, I also designed the magnetic back for MagniAssist. The magnetic back for MagniAssist will be made from 6x2mm Neodymium magnets. I designed it so that you will have to stop the print 3/4 of the way before the 3d printer puts filament over the holes in order to place the magnets in the print (meaning that it will be permanent). The magnetic back will be printed in three parts and will be connected by a string of PLA filament that’s 1.8mm in diameter.

Finished 3d modelling most of MagniAssist. Still need to model the magnet attachment (of course as well as other minor changes to make the thing look nice) and that’s it! The enclosure for the chips/modules of MagniAssist will be removable; that way any upgrades/changes that will be made in the future will be possible. Everything will be connected by M2.5 threaded inserts and bolts!

Started 3D modelling the case for MagniAssist. Focused most of my time on the sketch as it will make jobs easier for later. The rough outline of the sketch is 81mm in length and 36mm in width. The middle circle will be the speaker mount and the circles at each corner will be for the threaded inserts.

After spending a few hours on the programming part of MagniAssist and failing to make any progress I switched to 3D modelling. I searched up the dimensions of the components that I plan on using: esp32 c3 supermini, mini boost convertor, df player mini, charging module etc. I managed to 3d model four of the components (as listed above).

Day one of programming MagniAssist. Also my first day learning how to use the esp32’s WiFi ability. During this coding session I scratched the surface about how WiFi works. For example to create a access point you need a SSID and a password (I know this sounds obvious but mind you I knew nothing about WiFi previous this and so anything is new knowledge), then to be able to connect to the esp32 you will need to know the esp32’s IP address. While coding this I looked at the WiFi examples given by the esp32 libraries as well checked the Arduino’s official documentation on the WiFi library. I hope that the next time I continue the code I will have a deeper idea of how WiFi works and how to use the functions in the WiFi library (after doing more research of course).
