💾 Survival PC 3000: Software Devlog 2 💾

Hello Stardancers!
Today I have some good news and bad news:

  • Good News: These last few days I poured my all into this project and now I can finally say that I fixed all the errors in the code! And I found a file in the original github folder, it’s a Secret Menu!!!🤯🤯 The original author(kelmes1), made a python file in order to easily configure and personalize the UI, it even has the Amber color from Fallout New Vegas🥲;
  • Bad News: The errors that I mentioned before were caused by some modifications made by kelmes1, as I looked more into these errors I discovered that the code I’m modifying is a WIP and therefore lacks a ton of assets from the game;😢😢
    For now I’m working on the implementation of the New Vegas style in the code, inserting the selection between the two styles in kelmes1’s Secret Menu.
    See you soon

🖥️ Survival PC 3000: Software Devlog 1 🖥️

Hello Stardancers!
Now that the 3D model is somewhat finished (I forgor to add the Usb and HDMI holes and some support structures for the hardware that I’ll add when I have the pieces) I finally went to the software part.
For now I just managed to compile the open-source code that I found online (after an hour of losing my mind🫠🫠) .

However today I’m posting so as to let you know my plans for this project:

  • Dual Style: I want to add the Orange New Vegas Style to this code, the user will be able to change between the Original (Fallout 4) and the NV style through a “Secret Menu”;☢️
  • Radio and Map Customization: I want to put in the “Secret Menu” a selection between the audio and map from the games and the real ones, so you will never lose your way whether you are in the Commonwealth, the Mojave or New York;🏙️
  • Authentic Inputs: I will try to make the buttons, knob and selection wheel work like in the games, in case this doesn’t work the screen will also be touch.

See you soon,

👽 Survival PC 3000 Devlog #1 👽

Hello stardancers, It’s been a while since my last devlog, however I’ve got a good excuse: my highschool finals took away all my free time for about 2 weeks.😢😢

Anyways, I’m posting to inform y’all that I finally completed the 3D model of the pip-boy chassis for my post-apocalyptic forearm pc!!😁
I had to heavily modify all the original parts from the model I found online. Here is a breakdown of what I changed:

  • Enlarged button holes: because the model I used for base was made to fit a phone in, I had to widen the holes in front on the case and remove some details, so as to fit the buttons under the display;
  • Stretched case parts: the case didn’t have enought space for all the hardware (as it was made to fit a phone inside), therefore I had to copy-paste different parts to create some more space;
  • Added hardware compartment: my first model came out ridiculous (the case sticked out 6cm from the bracelet) therefore I decided to divide the hardware in 2 compartments:
    1. Foward compartment: with the raspberry, display, adafruit power boost/amplifier, radio module, RTC module, analogic knob/wheel, buttons and speaker;
    2. Back compartment:with the heaviest and biggest pieces (the geiger counter module and the 2 batteries);
      to connect the two compartments I created a hole in the front case and a tunnel in the back part of the bracelet(in white) near the hinge.
  • Added/modified holes: at the end I created and modified some holes in order to fit some M3 and M2 screws, in order to reinforce the hole structure.💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I made this model in tinkercad and to make sure everything fits I created some blocky test shapes of the hardware parts, and I used some thingiverse 3d models for the M3 and M2 screws. The entire 3D model is 186x198x159 millimeters.🫠🫠 It’s a BIG BOY, but it shouldn’t weight too much.

My next step will be programming the software for my Survival-PC, starting with the opening sequence.╰(°▽°)╯
See you soon,
