Just released cursor combat , my quick, neon-inspired aim trainer built to test your click accuracy and reflexes with a timer in 45 seconds!

Creating everything from scratch with HTML, CSS and vanilla javascript has been a massive learning curve, one of the toughest parts of it for me was uncoding all the javascript logic for the game loop & event listener. Learning the best way of detecting ‘misses’, (tapping anywhere other than the target object), without breaking the scoring was something I spent lots of time debugging. Matching the CSS of my ‘neon’ glow and smoothly transitional gamescreen with some CSS tricks was also tricky to get just right across each scene (Startup/Game/Gameover).

Even though this has proved challenging I couldn’t be prouder in how a ‘full package’ game it feels. From its ‘futuristic’ glowing appearance, the target which randomly switches in size upon ‘impact’ with your mouse and the distinctive ‘pop ‘ Sound! This really feels like its ready for any public release from the off .

Final Dev Log: Cursor Combat is Shipping! After what feels like ages, my aim-trainer is finally done! In this video above, I’m showcasing all the features put together – from the neon ui overlay, random target size, an “accuracy check” system that penalises inaccurate shots, down to a custom pop sound that plays each time targets are hit. Today I wrapped up the official Github project, I finally have an README to go alongside my code and the game is live and available on the internet for anyone to try, meaning… this is it, 100% done!

Cursor Combat – Devlog: Day 2!

It was an HUGE day today for Cursor Combat! I have taken, and done a thorough and complete, overhaul to the entire feel, polish and mechanics of our aimed training game.

What was done:Bug Fixes & Visual Polish- The neon glow is ADDED!

(A comma was missed on a box-shadow property, causing the neon glow on the target, and was in fact in fact in itself, actually messing with rendering of it, but of course, I only see this now.)-background grid Fix! Corrected syntax, but was an actually in fact actually funny looking typo, just in (radical-gradient to radial-gradient!) and gave us our dark-dotted background! -fix for typos in Animation! Correct spelling! – finally fixed upanimations!!!

Animation & game FEEL “Pop out!”

animation! I altered my existing animation of my target, so when you successfully click on the target, instead of just SHRINKING to nothing, it now POPS OUT! - “smooth gliding” Target! Instead of the target being a thing that TELEPORTs to its next target (that’s kinda the point when you have to time it really well!)

I have corrected my existing CSS Transition so my target ‘smooth glides’ from where it was at point-to-point across the span of 0.1, ease.

Added more JavaScript so that targets will spawn in anywhere between 30px – 100px, and have been made to ‘bounce’ up and down to an entirely random ‘size’ of them each time a target is struck!

This greatly adds difficulty to the timing and training aspect of the game!- 45-secod timer!-added functioning timer-addedHTMLheader to display current “time remaining”!- added a setinterval looping code in place to count down each second of the game!-addedalert upon end of game with timer displaying your score and have set timer to disappear once it pops up!

TOMORROW- Audio Feedback! (Day three)- I will be searching for what sounds great for my ’pop ‘em!’’ or “laser ‘pew’’ and add these sounds to the game using Web Audio API, so my target may emit an appropriate sound every time I click! and making the home and end sreen.

Today, I built my first ever game from absolute scratch. i am coding Cursor Combat, a browser-based game focused on aiming training. I started off by getting my IDE (VS Code) ready and laying the basic HTML foundation. Then, I went in with CSS to create some style elements. I added a dark background, transformed my default cursor to a sniper reticle, and crafted a white ‘Arena’ using position: relative and overflow: hidden that holds our target ball, effectively trapping it in place. The real highlight, though, was writing my first snippets of JavaScript! I implemented an event listener to update the score every time the ball is clicked. My clicker ball is also instantly teleporting all over the place within the Arena thanks to the magic of Math.random(). It definitely took some fiddling with coordinates and debugging some math functions to ensure the ball remained safely within the bounds of the Arena. Day one done, next stop is a timer, challenge you all to beat my score in 30 seconds when this thing’s finished! Let’s get it. 🔥
