A 3d hologram of the globe!
A 3d hologram of the globe!
Basically done the frame, will adjust later to center axle
I have to redo my github repo because of all the changes i’ve made…. it’s whatever. I did most of this at school, so I had very limited time to do…anything, actually LMAOOO
but I figured out how to hollow the cross in the middle out without absolutely destroying the program. Speaking of the cross, my teacher called me blasphemous today because I drew it while making a diagram. who’s gonna tell her the middle schooler aint doing anything vro 😭✌️
at first, I tried to make a smaller copy of the middle rectangle, and ‘remove’ extrude it from the original rectangle.
And guess what it did?
What?
NOTHING
itdid absolutely nothing holy
so i cried and shelled it.
IT WORKED!
anyways, i did this after FIVE hours. what a looooserrr.. I also did this while drinking monster..which I now know i’m allergic to???somehow???
but i have redbull and aura so it’s okay LOL
IM SO MAD WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ONSHAPE IM GONNA RUN DOOM ON MY AIRFRYER
so i realized that maybe, just MAYBE my wires would get tangled going at, say, 1000 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE. so i was so intelligent at school and brainstormed what I had already thought of, a slip ring! oh jolly, what a good idea!
‘the slip ring is connected to the center axle’ methinks at school, very wisely.
‘the center axle is inside the frame.’ HUH INSIDE THE FRAME? THE FRAME THAT ISN’T HOLLOWED OUT? YEAH, YEAH THAT’LL WORK!
so the obvious answer was to procasinate and since i couldn’t really do anything because i was at an AWARDS CEREMONY i just had to cope.
When I got home, I cannot tell you how fast I locked in. It was like, when you go home, shower, then go to Lowe’s with your cousin, then go to eat, then go on a run, then scroll on reels for 2 hours type of fast. Woah.
So, Jesse, how did your handsome, pretty, beautiful, muscular, intensely gorgeous self accomplish making a new frame?
By not making one at all.
GUys, stop booing me. I just suck at Onshape.
SO I ORIGINALLY MADE A CIRCLE WITH THE BOTTOM CARVED OUT ROUNDED.
buns
then I did the SAME THING
yeah buns
then I made it RECTANGULAR!
o dang wait that’s fiyah
and then INSTEAD of shelling it to make the frame, ONSHAPE told me: “hard no buddy, the integrity of your rectangle squared to the nanopower is being overrode by the fullstack-devs-in-silicon valley’s WRIST vibrations because of how intensely you suck at coding and CAD that you’ve somehow ruined their top-secret HTML.POOPY. CODE and now they’re all using GPT PRO against you “
to which I said:
“Hahah, dude, you’re hilarious! Second date?” AND DID TRIAL AND ERROR FOR AN HOUR STRAIGHT.
bars?
I’m losing my marbles. How the hell do I merge two sketches without using the “Use” tool. WHY IS IT EVEN CALLED THE “USE” TOOL? THAT’S SO CORNy?
*i dropped the second circle around the middle of the sphere because it got too pricey and complicated
also, definitely not a dig to onshape. this is 100% a user error and skill issue. I like how they have their resources FREE, lets keep it that way
shape of terror below
I made and improved gears for the drive belt mechanism I’ll be using to spin our frame! Ours? NO ITS MINE YOU CAN’T HAVE IT but I kinda struggled for a little bit with how they’d.. well, fit. So I chose some measurements that sounded like they’d make sense, and did that. Yay!
Wanna hear something REALLY funny, though? I was sort of falling asleep… and somehow confused CM for inches, so you may see the model get reaaallllly large.
just made gears for the belt drive in onshape, also made the stand! I’ll probably be focusing on code and improving these models in the next entry, but everything should be dandy.. For now.
EDIT: I’ve decided to make a stand out of wood instead of CAD. That would probably be better option because I want to print CHEAP and I won’t have good, sturdy, prints. So I can trust cheaper wood to hold everything down for me. If everything explodes? errrruuuhhh not my fault guys
Completing the frame of the Display! +Frame Assembly
After I realized that I did NOT need to hollow out the frame, I locked in and made.. this. I chose to do a dual circle frame for better visuals… also to balance it out. Looks nice, right? WROOOONNGGG. I messed up the measurements. Whatever, I’ll figure it out at the end. Assembly, too.
literally just trying to make the FIRST frame. There’s 5. Onshape just wanna be different SOOO bad.. but anyways, this is my attempt at making the first circle of the frame the sphere will project on. Yes, I’m very aware of how scuffed it is. I’m disappointed in myself, you don’t have to be. Basically, I just extruded and removed a LOT, but I haven’t gotten to shelling (more like I have, I just haven’t done it correctly. hah)
