The Algae-Based Smart Air Purifier is a solar-powered air purification system that combines MERV and activated carbon filters with algae to filter pollutants and absorb CO₂ through photosynthesis. Using an ESP32-S3, sensors, and automated controls, it monitors algae health, temperature, and light intensity. A connected website provides real-time updates and maintenance alerts, while solar panels, batteries, and the national power grid backup ensure a reliable power supply.

Ship #1 Pending review

I built a prototype of an Algae-Based Smart Air Purifier, combining MERV and activated carbon filters, an algae , an ESP32-S3 microcontroller, sensors, automated cooling and lighting, and a website for monitoring the system. One of my biggest challenges was integrating unfamiliar sensors and electronic components while learning how to code the entire system. I once spent an entire day trying to fix a single coding error, and even after completing the wiring before the competition, I encountered a short circuit and a leaking tank. I eventually had to disconnect everything and start over. Although the final result wasn’t what I had hoped for, I’m proud that I kept trying, learned to troubleshoot unfamiliar technologies, and brought my idea into a physical prototype. I’d encourage anyone who wants to test my project to start by checking each circuit and sensor individually before integrating the entire system, then test the water tank for leaks and verify the power supply and wiring carefully. My biggest takeaway is that building something new isn’t always about getting it right the first time; it’s about learning, rebuilding, and having the courage to try again!
