My First Godot Game

I built my first ever game in Godot called Out of Sync, a glitch themed escape game with two playable levels. In the first level, the player has to collect 5 keys before the timer runs out and then reach the exit. In the second level, the player has to avoid moving lasers, reach 3 switches placed around the room, and then escape through the final exit. The game also includes character selection, a restart button, timers, collision detection, locked and unlocked exits, level transitions, and a final completion screen.

Ship #1 Pending review

I made my first ever Godot game, Out of Sync, and honestly this project was much more challenging than I expected. I started with a simple idea, but while building it I ended up learning a lot about scenes, scripts, collisions, timers, character selection, level transitions, and fixing bugs.
The most difficult part was making everything work together properly, especially the character selection across different levels, the locked/unlocked exits, the timer system, and the second laser level. There were so many small issues that kept coming up, and sometimes fixing one thing created another problem.
I’m really proud that I kept working on it and turned the idea into a complete playable game with two levels, different challenges, restart functionality, and a proper ending. I also learned a lot about Godot during the process, and by the end I felt much more comfortable finding things and understanding how the project was structured.
You can test the full game using the Try project link. I’m really happy to finally finish and ship my first Godot game!

Finally finished the whole game Both levels are now complete and working properly. I also fixed the last few issues with the character selection, exits, and the browser version. I tested the full game from start to finish and everything is working now. This project honestly made me so tired but I learned a lot while building it. At the start I barely knew where things were in Godot, but after working on it for so long, I got much more comfortable with scenes, scripts, signals, collisions, and fixing bugs. The game is now live in the browser and the code is also on GitHub. Really happy to finally finish and ship my first Godot game :)

Finally finished reworking Level 2!
I changed it from being too simple into a more challenging laser room. Now the player has to reach 3 switches placed around the room, avoid the moving lasers, turn them off one by one, and then unlock the exit. Also fixed the character selection so the same character you choose at the start continues into this level too. This part took a lot of testing because the laser collisions, switches, and exit kept breaking in different ways but it finally works properly now.The game is basically complete now, and I’m really happy with how much better Level 2 feels compared to before.

Finally got Level 1 into a proper playable state today. Added the 5-key challenge, timer, counter, locked/unlocked exit, and made the transition to the next room automatic once the level is cleared.I also cleaned up the HUD and fixed a bunch of annoying key/pickup issues along the way.It was one of those sessions where one small bug kept turning into another but seeing the full level work from start to finish was worth it.
Next up: polishing the next room and making the game more challenging.

Polished the title screen and it took a lot of effort 😭 I changed the main title font, worked on the purple panels, fixed the spacing, and cleaned up the character selection and Start button. I’m really tired now, but the more the game starts looking better, the more I feel like continuing and building the next parts.

I’m currently working on improving Room 3 of my game, “Out of Sync.” I added moving laser obstacles around the key to make the level more challenging, adjusted the player and collision sizes, and finished the escape flow. I also redesigned the room-complete screen with a neon theme, a glowing Continue button, and sparkle effects that appear when the player hovers over it. The level is starting to feel much more polished and complete now.

Today I worked on Room 3 of my Godot game. I added laser hazards, a collectible key, and an exit system. The player now has to avoid the lasers, collect the key, and reach the door to complete the room. I also fixed several script and movement issues while testing the level.

Today I added a timer to my Godot game and made a proper time-up screen. I also added a restart button so the level can start again after losing. I had a few problems with button signals and node names, but I fixed them and now the game is working better.

Today I worked on my Godot game. I created and tested different parts of the game, fixed some problems, and learned more about how Godot works. I also improved the gameplay and made progress on the project.
