Its a premium DIY Wind Tunnel. Its a part of my eco-system. If you look i have 2 more project called Fume absorber and SL-OmniTrack. All these project are for my main model rocket project and this wind tunnel is to test my rocket parts like fins and nose cone.

##Finally completed the design🎉

##What i did

  1. Redesigned top and front side of tunnel
  • Added 10mm offseted holder for acrylic sheet for stregth
  • Previous design didnt had holder for acrylic sheet

##What i did

  1. Redesigned whole mist maker

Changes in Mist maker

  • Changed overall shape from Square to cylindrical
  • Also redesigned new cap with slide in design to avoid accidental fall and water spalsh
  • Increased wall thickness to avoid water leak

What i did

  • Tunnel part is mostly done
  • But i need a big refactor in design of mist maker and exhaust fan
  • They need some big decision changes

Hiya! This looks awesome already, but include a CAD model of the full assembly (including mist box and fan) and a wiring diagram so we can get a better idea of how your project works together. Also make sure your BOM is in USD and includes purchase links to all items. Thanks!

Design

  • I finally designed the front air intake and main testing area in CAD. I also applied appropriate textures, such as clear polycarbonate, to the front and top sections of the testing rig.
  • Also added a hexagonal pattern to the front.
  • Next, I’m going to work on the back section and a separate mist generator.

Dimensions

  1. Front air intake

    • 8 inch × 8 inch (W × H)
    • 10 mm fillet
    • 5 mm border
  2. Hexagonal pattern

    • 20 mm diameter
    • 2.033 mm border
    • 70 mm length
  3. Main testing rig

    • 12 inch × 8 inch × 8 inch (L × W × H)

Smoke generation -

  • Previously i was having hard time deciding how to generate smoke but later upon searching for solution i found way better way called Water Mist
  • They are better than tradition ways like burning mineral/baby oil due to their temp. Acc to previous devlog hot air needs to be cooled to achieve laminar flow and water mist remove entire process of cooling
  • They are easier to be sustainable since everyone has access to water (not for long due to AI).

Design

  • I also started designing it in CAD , things like front air intake, mist generator and etc.
  • Currently im working on hexagonal pattern inside front air intake to straighten mist before it gets to test area.

Thing i did -

  • Researched about others wind tunnel project and their most occurred failures
  • Deigned smoke straighter in Hexagonal shape

Contraint in current design/plan

  • Currently im most confused in generating smoth laminar smoke, i searched about some ways like heating mineral oil or baby oil but i want this design to be beginner friendly and non-envasive.
  • Also if i go with the heating methods i would need to somehow cool the smoke to make it laminar since i heard hot air dont flow as smoothly as cold one.

this ss shows one of the problem faced by some fellow peer who also made a wind tunnel.

Design

  • i started designing the project like which data’s to measure, their required sensors and documented them in my notebook.

Components

  • made a list of component which im gonna need for BOM
