DEVLOG #06

I’m currently working on the code for my future entrance exam scene. Unfortunately I don’t have any visuals to post for it yet!

Since I haven’t posted my updated battle sequence and NPC follow mechanic despite mentioning it, I dedicate this devlog to showing a little snippet of it.

DEVLOG #05
Almost done with the train’s interior! I still have to add the scrolling bg on the window.

What’s new:

  • Train door animation
  • NPCs in subway car: dialogue, sprites, animations
  • NPC walk/follow mechanic in later game

What’s next:

  • Scrolling bg
  • Polish maps/add objects
  • Enemy attack animation…

DEVLOG #04

The train station map has been updated. Using aseprite, I designed a new train/subway and proper wall tiles for the map.

Other new additions:

  • Tutorial battle completed, including scripted loss and second battle with NPC icons and dialogue to aid the player
  • New NPC walking cutscene
  • New dialogue and updated older dialogue to ensure clarity
  • Battle UI instruction panel for keyboard mechanics
  • Forest map updated with redesigned train station as well

What’s next:

  • Animate train doors
  • Add objects and NPCs to station map
  • Complete train interior scene
  • Still working on enemy attack animation…

DEVLOG #03

It’s been a while… the overall battle ui is almost done!

What’s new:

  • Adaptable party panel (characters can be added and removed)
  • Action menu with four options + key navigation
  • Unique skills for each party member
  • Items and ability to select target party member
  • Attack menu for writing code (currently only one problem type)
  • Background + enemy drawing
  • Escape button mechanics to exit attack, skill, and items menu

What’s next

  • Finish the attack animation for the enemy
  • Modify first battle encounter to fit storyline goals
  • Add option for a speaker name on top of dialogue box (for new character introductions)

DEVLOG #01

Spent way too long working on the bare bones of the battle UI for the game. No art or background yet… but at least it works.

Next steps:

  • add functionality to all four buttons
  • add timer to text input box
  • draw player/party panel
  • polish visuals
