Fokuser is a free and open-source Chrome Extension that lets you set a focus timer to block sites to help you focus on your priorities. It features a Material 3 Expressive user interface and tracks the time you have saved by blocking sites.
I built a Chrome Extension that helps users block sites and focus instead. I built this extension because I often find students such as myself opening my laptop to study, but end up watching YouTube or playing games instead. Thus, this extension serves as an extra barrier that blocks these sites and mutes notifications to provide a conducive digital studying environment.
Added a scheduler to Fokuser to let users dedicate a certain time to focus. Also did some bug patches to do with state management and synchronization.
Added Do Not Disturb mode that blocks notifications by using the chrome.contentSettings API. Also added a redesigned settings UI.
Finished the publishable version of the extension! It now tracks the amount of time you focused and features a whitelist and blacklist to whitelist/blacklist sites.
Initial commits to Fokuser! We got the name ‘Fokuser’ from the Norwegian plural word of ‘focus’. The Chrome Extension currently lets you set a time until to block sites. It is a very basic implementation using chrome.storage.local and chrome.alarms APIs.
