What did you make?

I built Kasseo (“Split the fund. Not the trust.”), a shared expense and group fund tracker built with Vue 3, Tailwind CSS, and Firebase, wrapped for Android using Capacitor.

It handles two distinct ways groups manage money: a pooled shared fund (“Kitty” mode) and direct expense splitting with automatic balance settlements (“Split” mode). Beyond standard expense logging, it has category budgets with rollover, an AI receipt scanner powered by Gemini through a Cloudflare Worker, an interactive “Wrapped”-style recap generator, and an offline-first sync engine.

What was challenging?

Getting offline mode right was by far the hardest part. I wanted the app to be genuinely usable when traveling without reception, which meant caching data in IndexedDB and queuing mutations chronologically so they safely replay to Firebase Realtime Database once you get back online.

Handling edge cases in multi-currency conversions (preserving historical rates when a fund changes its base currency) and making sure the AI receipt parser reliably extracted items from blurry images also took a lot of debugging.

What are you proud of?

Logging 50 hours across 31 devlogs and actually finishing something that feels solid enough for daily use. I really care about the small details-smooth charts, customizable themes, 6 language translations, and exportable recap cards that look great when shared with friends.

What should people know so they can test your project?

  1. Sign in with Google, create a fund, and pick either Kitty or Split mode.
  2. Add a couple of expenses or tap the camera button to try scanning a receipt with AI.
  3. Test offline mode: switch your browser network to Offline (or turn on Airplane mode), log an expense, and turn the connection back on. You’ll see it queue locally and sync right away.
  4. Check out the Budgets tab in settings to try category spending limits, or open the Recap tab to view the generated summary cards.

Things that I mad since the last devlog:

  • build version on footer
  • 1000 to k (shorter numbers)
  • fixed number input
  • open invite links in app
  • fixed API leak (re-rolled the key)
  • better release formatting
  • when a receipt has been scanned only send one notification
