Star-Catcher

“Catch the Stars!” - Game made for the WarioWare Mission

Background info

It’s almost done!!! My motivation has been wavering a bit which prevented me from working on this project for a while, but we pushed through😎.

New minigame!

The third and last minigame. It was originally going to be a whack-a-mole type game but I realized that was above my skill level and I decided to make a clicking/reaction game instead.

  • You have to click on the star 15 times to progress
  • A black hole will appear. If you click on it, you lose a life
  • Text indicating when to click or stop with custom animation! (Inspired by @Gabl ’s Goose Games- Go check it out!)

What else is new

  • Created lose screen with retry button
    • Lives and minigames done resets when button is clicked
  • Created win screen with play again+menu buttons
    • Background hasn’t been drawn yet
  • The sprite now changes directions when you move left/right
  • Bug fixes

Extra info

I decided to keep the title screen image, but I might change the title design. I did have some ideas because I was way too overambitious, but I’m happy with how the game turned out! I hope you do too.

I’ll make one last devlog before shipping after I write my Readme and draw the winner’s screen

Thank you for all the support so far. Until next time!

Star-Catcher

“Catch the Stars!” - Game made for the WarioWare Mission

Background info

I haven’t been working on this game as much as I should lately, but I swear imma lock in 😭. I made some drawings for the background and made a new banner! I was going to use the banner image for the title screen of the game, but the dimensions didn’t match up so when I resized it, the image looked off.

What’s New

Mainly focused on visual aspects of the game

  • Added floating animations to the stars
  • Changed the background of the level/time scene and settings page
  • Replaced the old font with a new pixel font

To do

  • Draw title screen background
  • Create win/lose screens
  • Add character walking animations
  • Make 3rd minigame

Until next time!

“Collect the Stars!” - Game made for the WarioWare Mission

Background info

I said I’d finish making the first minigame yesterday, but I severely underestimated how hard it would be. Building the game was easy but coding it was horrible. The timer wouldn’t work and would automatically close the player.

I ended up moving on to the second minigame (image on the right). Making it went smoothly which gave me enough motivation to finish making the first minigame.

I still don’t know what was wrong with my code, I just ended up deleting the whole script and rewriting it.

What’s New

  • 2 mini games created!!
    • A platformer where you collect 3 stars in under 10 seconds
    • A clicked where you click on 5 stars in under 7 seconds

To do

Next time I work on this, I want to focus on how the game looks visually cause doing the coding this session was exhausting.

  • Make/draw new background
  • Make a custom title on the home page
  • Change how the platforms look on the platformer minigame
  • Add character walking animation

That’s all for now. Until next time!!

Star-Catcher

“Collect the Stars!” - Game made for the WarioWare Mission

Background Info

This session, I mostly worked on the coding. When I saw the code I needed to write I lowkey got scared but it all worked out in the end 😎

What’s new

Nothing has been added visually besides the “lives left” image being replaced. It’s a net now! (To catch the stars ofc)

  • Timer on level scene now works
  • Added level count
  • Created in game timer

To do

  • Create first level (platformer minigame)
  • Create settings page
  • Draw a background and banner

Extra

I drew the character sprite! She’s a little girl who carries an oversized net and LOVES stars. I drew a front-facing version that I’m probably not going to use but I wanted to show it off still.

It’s not perfect cause I still don’t know how to make pixel art, but I hope yall like it!!

The next devlog will be later today after I make the first minigame. Until then!

“Collect the Stars!” - Game made for the WarioWare Mission

Background info

New project!!!! When I saw this mission I was so excited because I finally have a reason to learn how to make a game.

I wanted this to be a space-themed game with a pixel art style. The idea is you play as a little girl with a net who runs around catching stars.

What I have so far

So far, I only have the menu screen and the “loading” screen. It’s very much a work in progress, and I plan to change the background and the “lives” later on.

Whats next

I plan to make an the first actual level scene next (I can finally use my star drawings I made the other day :D). This is my first time using Godot/making a game in general, so I hope I can make a good game!

To do

  • Make first level scene
  • Change background
  • Make/draw character sprite
  • Make “lives” drawing (I’ll probably make it a net)
