Creating a custom PCB Business card
Found a LED that I liked and imported the footprint, routed all of the parts and finalized the silkscreen on the card. I also created and imported the QR code, which links to a github page that can redirect to wherever I want, and is currently set to go to my LinkedIn. I’m estimating about 20-30 minutes more of work to assemble the completed BOM and create the git repo for this.
Created my first Kicad footprint! I had to make the antenna coil, but it took a suprising amount of time just to make sure it was properly constrained. I’m not sure if I wasn’t using Kicad as efficiently as I could, or if it just wasn’t built for this kind of thing, but regardless I got through it by individually checking each trace.
Spent a ridiculous amount of time remembering how to use Kicad after about 9 months of not touching it, and finding accurate parts for the business card. I spent a lot of time on the antenna calculator to get the right value but also have a coil that I aesthetically liked. Figured out the resistance and capacitance needed, found specific components that correlated to those values, and figures out the antenna specs. Luckily, I think I have basically nothing left to do after this apart from the fun part of designing the card and routing the very few components in this design
Created the completed schematic for my PCB business card. I haven’t figured out the exact resistance and capacitance for each symbol but I will probably figure out the calculations for that later. Used Claude a bit to double check I was pulling the correct values from the datasheet, and double checking if I was doing things correctly but nothing else.
