Added safety guidelines and updated the README!

I checked the resources tab yesterday and realized my README was not up to par! So I decided to make it as polished as possible and also forgot to log some of the hours! oops :P

Anywhooo the readme has been updated so that now most people who have a basic understanding of robotics stuff can make my project! If any of you guys choose to make this, please let me know! I think it would make a great little HCB prize if I’m being honest.

hello!
This is my first ship, so I will try to keep this succinct!

My name is Aayan, and I hope to go very far with my designs, but for now, this is where they are!

I have developed a Rock, Paper, Scissors toy that you can build yourself at home with the help of a soldering iron, a few extra screws, and a Hackpad kit! You simply choose an option, and the CPU will also randomly choose an option. The CPU will display the appropriate outcome based on whether you won, lost, or tied.

Some initial challenges I faced in the development stages were the wiring for all the tracks! So many different configurations were made until I eventually landed on this! This, of course, was my first ever PCB, so there were bound to be many such configurations.

I’m pretty proud of the idea I had for the integration of the LEDs as a more garnish-type element to accent the OLED panel display results. I initially was thinking to add a potentiometer for brightness control, but decided against it as it didn’t really add too much to the overall function of the project.

Before you go ahead and get to printing, you should know this project is still in the dev stages and once its finished(which I will publish) it will be easy to setup. In the interim, I will post updates of the build progress and what bugs I may fix in the future. Thank you for reading and I hope to see you again soon :D

ITS COMPLETE STICKER HERE I COME

I finally finished the full design for my Rock Paper Scissors module!

Some notes before I ship:

This project requires TWO smaller M3x8 screws for the standoffs, but that shouldn’t be too much of a worry for me personally because I am very fortunate to have access to a robotics trove of parts.

This project features an OLED panel along with two LEDs that are meant to display different states based on what the player chooses to play against the CPU. The initial display will feature text saying “RPS?” and the player will choose the corresponding key. Upon their selection, the game will then display if the player has won, tied, or lost to the CPU who has randomly chosen an option. I would’ve loved to add a speaker, but that’s not included in the kit :( - maybe something to suggest for the next round of hackpads!

this is my first ship so im pretty excited to get the hardware and upload the code and make it work!

I finally finished the PCB! : D

I had to do some major rearranging for tracks(pcb wire connections), but it’s finally done! I have finished the PCB and I am now starting the preliminary stages of making a case for the PCB.

explanation for other beginners :D

i had to redo a lot of my wiring because i had thought that the components had to be facing a specific based on diagrams i saw that were not specific to my hardware. however, i did not check the hackpad docs, and therefore went through some quite unnecessary pain to rearrange all the tracks to accommodate such a major change.

side note for beginners aka tldr:CHECK THE DOCUMENTATION ALWAYS ITS FOR YOUR OWN SANITY

Keypad :D
Rn im trying to make a rock paper scissors type game with three keys and an oled with two leds
im also switching permanently to kicad for my other project KiCAD is WAY easier to use and is so much less clunky

notes for beginners: i was initially using EasyEDA, another free tool that im sure many use - i am no longer one of them lol
easy eda was great for getting parts from the cloud and just wiring em up, but was horrible for the work itself and was rather unintuitive
kicad provides a much smoother experience that i have enjoyed much more thoroughly than easyeda lol :D
