This project aims to make a smart trash that is aimed to mitigate hygiene problems usually associated with public bins/trash-cans and instil a sustainable mindset within its users. It will also educate users on taking care of one's environment by displaying random fun facts on the outer LCD display.

I just finished building my very first proper Arduino project: a smart bin engineered to eliminate the hygiene issues associated with typical trash cans.

As my first-ever public project, I was definitely nervous and felt like a fish out of water. I had to learn how to code from scratch while simultaneously getting used to tools like GitHub and VS Code. When it came to programming, YT tutorials and the AI assistant in VS Code were a huge help.

With regard to hardware, I struggled to find a small enough trash can, so I had to improvise with an ice cream tub! It was a massive learning curve, but I’m proud of how it turned out.

Please be lenient when judging, and I hope you enjoy checking it out!

Just finished building and testing my smart bin. I recently got into Arduino, and when I found out about Hack Club and Stardance, I just knew I wanted to build something cool to show you all. I’m also using this project to build up my engineering portfolio, especially since I’m finishing high school soon and top universities look for practical experience like this. It was a lot of hassle; learning to code and getting used to VS Code and GitHub was a pain, but hey, at least I have something to show for it!!
