today i made the first real CAD part for the model.
the elevon.
i say “the” not because were only using one elevon, that’d be stupid. No my current approach is to make 2 parts:
-bottom half of the fuselage
-elevon (flap)
and then copy these parts to assemble the final model.
this part will soon be printed to test dimensions and next week im starting work on the actual fuselage.
Today my controller and transmitter also came in meaning im only waiting on batteries and a replacement motor for the motor i burnt through last week.
today i began work on the CAD model of the drone by drawing a top-down view, side-view, and left front view (only need the left front view for the model)
it was incredibly difficult as i could not find a proper tutorial on youtube or google so i figured it out as i went. i think the drawings turned out pretty good.
recap:
-created drawing top view
-created drawing left front view
-created drawing side view right
today i made the 1:2 scale model out of foam, i eventually realized the actual model would be better made with 3d printing, so tomorrow i will work on my cad skills. i will need to make 2 parts, one for the frame which will be copied, and 1 for the two flaps. so 1 flap which i can then also copy.
the model was rather easy to make because i had made a 1:10 and 1:5 scale drawing of the aircraft.
today i also ordered the final component:
a 2s lipo 2200mah battery which will be enough.
last logging i forgot to make a devlog so here it is what i did:
i weighed out all the components, which turned out to be 251g with the battery included. assembled the motor which can provide around 700-800g of thrust so the aircraft will have an insane t/w ratio
recap:
-made the foam airframe 1:2 scale model
-refined production plan for the actual RC plane
-ordered the final component
-weighed out all the components
-calculated thrust to weight ratio
first devlog, i began work on the official design today, already had a concept sketch/drawing ready. the actual design turned out a bit ‘pointier’ than i wanted, i will work on this the next few days untill parts arrive.
The flying wing idea turned out to be way harder than expected at first so its going to be a struggle but thats just what makes engineering fun!
recap:
-expanded design concepts
