Isles is a small Minecraft plugin I made that generates Skyblock-style islands in a grid, with each player getting their own island. I built it for my SMP because I wanted something my friends and I could play for about a week that felt more interesting than starting another normal vanilla world.
I’m honestly proud that it lasted that long, because most of my friends are not as into Minecraft anymore. Even though the plugin is simple, it created a good social environment where people could hang out, trade, bridge to each other, and actually interact instead of everyone splitting off and doing their own thing.
The hardest part was probably figuring out island placement. I had to find a good middle ground where the islands were far enough apart to feel separate, but not so far that bridging to friends became annoying. That decision ended up mattering a lot because the whole point of Isles is that every island exists in the same physical world, with a center island connecting everything together.
What makes Isles different from normal Skyblock is that it is not just a bunch of isolated islands. Everyone is still in the same world, so you can visit your friends, trade with them, and build connections between islands. My favorite part was not really one specific feature, but just seeing the server turn into a place where my friends could mess around together for a week.
I would rather people try Isles with their own friends before voting on it instead of just upvoting or downvoting blindly. It is meant to be judged by how it feels to play socially, not just by looking at the code or the idea from the outside.
