First official project of the summer! Looking for a more, proactive summer. First project is something I’ve never done before. A Minecraft mod. I don’t even play Minecraft but it sounds fun! With the new Backrooms movie dropping (which I haven’t seen), now is a good time to ride the wave and develop something around a movie.

Since the beginning of this project I’ve done about 6ish hours, and got some procedural generation working. There’s about 10 different types of structures/rooms you can encounter in this first level that are all unique. Some have chests, some have drops that lead you to your death :)

I’m going into this with just about zero knowledge on Minecraft or Minecraft Mods so it will be a painstaking process.

In my next devblog I would have hope to achieve some bug fixes, and start procedurally generating the next level, the pool rooms 🌊.

Kepler’s Compass is a software tool that scans NASA’s database of 6,291 verified exoplanets and identifies those that have the potential to support life forms. Rather than analyzing thousands of lines of data, users can search for habitable planets using an interactive application and visualize those with the highest possibility of supporting life.

The program gathers all data from NASA’s database and presents it in the form of planets in 2D and 3D views. Users can also click on each planet and get information about its radius, temperature, distance from Earth, and orbit parameters.

Perhaps one of the most important features of the application is the habitability analyzer. It analyzes several parameters of an exoplanet and evaluates the possibility that it could host lifeforms. These include temperature range, mass, distance from a star, etc. Based on this, the system ranks planets and writes notes about potential problems associated with certain factors.

Currently, I am working on enhancing the accuracy of scoring and developing a reliable way to conduct the habitability analysis.
