This week, the project took a big step forward. I began building the SLS Engineering section, where users won't just read about NASA's rocket, in fact they'll build an understanding of it through a 12-stage launch simulation.
The biggest challenge was the JavaScript behind the scenes. Every launch stage happens within seconds, so keeping the timing and calculations synchronized turned out to be much harder than I expected. After many failed attempts, I realized the problem wasn't the math itself, rather it was when the calculations were being updated. Once I fixed that logic, everything finally worked as intended.
As I continue building, I'm thinking carefully about the quality-of-life problem this project solves. Space science is often taught through long videos or textbook diagrams, making it difficult for many students to stay engaged or understand how everything connects in a real mission. My goal is to remove that friction by turning complex STEM concepts into an interactive experience where students actively participate instead of passively reading.
The next stages will introduce astronaut engineering challenges, real-time mission mathematics, rocket fueling, launch operations, Moon landing procedures, scientific experiments, and mission decision-making. Every activity is designed to mirror real Artemis-inspired workflows while providing instant feedback, progress tracking, and personalized learning. Instead of simply learning about a mission, users gradually build the confidence and practical understanding to think like an engineer, scientist, and astronaut.
The goal is simple: make learning space exploration more interactive, more intuitive, and far more memorable.
