I built a simple luck-based game where players choose a unique username and roll for a score that can suddenly jump higher or drop lower. The hardest part was realizing that trusting the browser meant people could manually change scores, so I moved the important logic to a Cloudflare Worker and made the server handle usernames, cooldowns, random rolls, and score saving. I also fixed the old Firebase security issues, removed exposed PINs, added protected sessions, and made sure duplicate usernames are rejected. I’m proud that the leaderboard is now much harder to abuse while still keeping the project lightweight and free to run. You can test it by opening the site, entering a username, starting the game, and clicking Roll.

Today we secured the game from the ground up: we locked down the old Firebase database, removed the exposed PIN system, moved the leaderboard to a fresh Cloudflare D1 database, and put a Cloudflare Worker in charge of registrations, usernames, cooldowns, random rolls, and score saving. Players can’t submit their own scores or edit someone else’s, duplicate usernames are rejected, sessions are protected with secure cookies, and the Worker now checks requests properly instead of trusting the browser. We also cleaned out the old Firebase code, updated the README, pushed everything to GitHub, and fixed the bug that was making rolls fail with a 503 error.

Built Roll to Infinity, a simple number-rolling game with a live leaderboard 🎲

The idea was dead simple: roll, rack up points, climb the leaderboard. But getting the leaderboard to actually update live (without it feeling laggy or janky) was the annoying part, spent way more time on that than the actual “rolling” mechanic lol.

Proud that it’s fully functional end-to-end even though it’s small, you can roll, see your score jump instantly, and watch yourself move up/down the board in real time.

If you want to test it: just try rolling a bunch of times back to back and see if the leaderboard keeps up without breaking or glitching, that was the main thing I was worried about.

Added PIN protection to usernames today so people can’t overwrite each other’s scores. Updated the Firebase rules so the PIN itself can’t be changed once it’s set. Tested it and it works, someone named Yuvraaj already showed up on the leaderboard with a higher score than me lol.
