Hey everyone! 👋 A while back, I wanted a faster, more modern way to explore NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) archive. Today, I’m super excited to share Cosmic APOD V3!
I challenged myself to build this entirely without a backend. It’s just Vite and Vanilla JS, but it packs some serious features using browser-native APIs.
MobileNet) to generate image tags directly in your browser via WebGL. No server processing, completely private, and the 1.8MB model is lazy-loaded so the app stays blazing fast.localStorage to unlock 1,000 requests/hour.I’ve learned so much about AbortControllers, IndexedDB, Service Workers, and client-side ML while building this.
If you’re interested in offline-first web apps or space, I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think! 🌌

Hey hackers! I just shipped V2 of my NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day explorer. It was a messy prototype It’s now a fully polished Single Page Application built entirely with Vanilla JS and Vite!
You can check it out here: Live Demo 🌌
I wanted to see how far I could push the browser without heavy frameworks like React.
// The secret sauce: Aggressive caching & AbortControllers
const currentAbortController = new AbortController();
const data = await fetch(url, { signal: currentAbortController.signal });
Hey everyone! The initial version of our project is finally live.
It’s still a work in progress It’s ready for you to test!
