Hey!! I'm Maty, I'm learning how to build some cool stuff :0 I like playing Minecraft and planespotting, so I might make a bunch of projects about allat! I like modeling in Onshape and I'm learning Python and Arduino :) so excited to participate in Stardance! - 8/3/26

Devlog #8: fought for roughly 5 hours to hollow out the tail. Also hollowed the engines. — I tried so many ways to hollow the tail, like using the “shell” and “hollow” tool, extruding inwards, etc. so, what I did, was to use the “thicken” tool to make a shell that was 0.6mm thick. While I wanted the original model to be hollowed inwards, I think rather making the exterior thicker still worked quite well. — As for the engines, unlike the tail, it was pretty easy as it just required to use the shell hollow tool. Also, the engines are 0.6mm thick now and the pylon is 0.4mm! (A pylon is the mount of the engine that connects to the wing C:) — now, I need to remake the wings because of their geometry to hollow them out :)

Devlog #7: hollowed out the belly and the nosecone — at first, I was super confused on how to hollow out round parts like those of lofts, so after a quick google search I discovered a tool, Shell. I’m so happy I found out about it because otherwise I would be fighting to extrude each part for hours lol. Like the fuselage, the belly and nosecone have 0.6mm of thickness (~0.0236 for the Americans!) — As for hollowing the nosecone, I struggled a bit because the inside and outside were unidimensional and floating, (I basically left a gap of 0.6mm between them) but I figured it was because I had made the windshield before hollowing the nosecone out, so I pushed the intersect booleans of the windshield and nosecone to the very end of the features list, which fixed it, as you can see in the ss! — next to do: figure a way to hollow out the wings and tail surfaces (I tried, but I had a couple problems due to the geometry)

Devlog #6: Made the windshield and hollowed out the middle of the fuselage and the belly. — For the windshield, made a sketch on the top plane and extruded it, then created an intersect boolean to separate overlapping parts of the nosecone. — For hollowing the fuselage, I separated the nosecone so it would be easier to visualize changes. then hollowed part of the fuselage and left a thickness of 0.6mm. I did this by going in the sketches and creating a smaller copy of the sketch and extruding that out as a “remove”. I also did this for part of the belly, but I still have to hollow out the curved parts like lofts. — To do next: hollow out the nosecone, tail and belly :) — also: if I happen to modify the model so its suitable for an RC, the engines are provisional so I may change them in the future so they fit a standard EDF.

devlog #5: Finished the engines!! tbh I thought they would be a lot harder to make due to the complex geometry, but it was actually quite fun! I made the engine by first sketching the nacelle and revolving that, I then made the pylon/strut that holds the engine, and finally the blades, which I made by lofting a rectangle at different angles and distances.

Devlog #4: I lied in my last devlog, I decided to make the wings before the frontal windows because I already learned how to do that by making the tail! I made the top view shape first and then added the airfoil by lofting it by parts. The airfoil is a NACA4412. I did spend like 40 minutes trying to figure out how to make the wings dihedral and give them shape 😭 but so far I’m so proud of how it’s turning out. I feel like the engines are gonna be pretty hard to model but I’m up for the challenge! I’m excited to finish it and see how it turns out. :)

Devlog #3: made the tail of the airplane. I made each stabilizer by sketching out and extruding the base, then shaped the width with a remove extrude and added some fillets to make it smooth. Next I’ll be making the frontal/cockpit windows :)

Making an airplane in Onshape devlog #2: made the fuselage a bit longer. I came across a couple problems (the parts weren’t generating) cuz I had to delete some reference points and sketches in order to extrude the fuselage, but I fixed it by re-lofting the empennage and modifying the base sketches of it. I also expanded the belly. Next up I am gonna make the rudder and elevators :)

Devlog #1: making an airliner. I spent the first 3-4 hours making the sketches. I encountered a lot of problems with making the lofts (the lines weren’t connecting) so it didn’t extrude correctly. I fixed that by making composite curves. I then encountered the problem that the radome wasn’t smooth so I made ellipses to form the nose shape and extruded it. I continued by making the empennage and did the same as with the nose. I finished the fuselage and the belly today. Any advice is rlly appreciated :)
