I finally found the idea. First I will be using the JLCCNC cnc turning fabrication from aluminium. Second the idea is I will machine the pen and then make a M5 hole into it which will cover the hole + hold the clip from sheet metal that I will be bending with the help of a 3d printed bending guide. I hope this will work and I do think It’s a good idea, but first I’ll print this prototype :).

I 3d printed it and I really like it, but still the main thing is and I still need to think about the most is how to make the clip, but mainly should I have the top open or closed and many more ideas to think about. I also printed it in a bad orientation, definitely a good acknowledgment.

It is ready to print version 2 of the pen and version 3 of the cartridge top cap. I added the clip and thought of a really exciting and interesting idea, that is making the top as a thread and adding a bolt like a m2 or a m3.

All over again or is it? Yea, so I 3d printed the 1st prototype and I understand it now. First it was way too small and the thickness was so slim my printer almost couldn’t print it. After some time I was like how will I fit a spring in it, so I just made it like a normal pen without any fancy mechanism, just the simplest of them all. ( I do still need to make the clip for it )

I got a idea (making the bolt, which is the thing you use to slide it from a m2 bolt), so I tested it and it was bad, because I would have to have a bigger hole on the pen. Then I got a better idea and that is making the top cap as a barrel too, so 2 in 1. Then I adjusted some things and send it off to my printer.

First I decided on a bolt action pen for simplicity and some people like it more, also as I said before about the options I chose the first one which means it will have a 3d printed cap, because I don’t want the pen to be thick. Then i modeled some things around the pen, like a barrel onto the cartridge and the barrel cutout, which went trough some iterations. That’s all.

Let me get you back to speed, so this was a project that I started before, but only put a little care into, so now I will do what I started. I bought pen cartridges with my own money, so i can model and test easily, so I did, also before I modeled how I want the pen to look like. In this blog I modeled the pen cartridge, that I now have at home and I modeled the top cap for one of my ideas. There are two ideas on the right is the cartridge with a 3d printed top cap and on the left is the original cap that it came with, both of those will go into my pen, but I still don’t know which one, so I’ll need to decide later, for now that’s all.
