Devlog #3

Thing i did -

  • Researched about others wind tunnel project and their most occurred failures
  • Deigned smoke straighter in Hexagonal shape

Contraint in current design/plan

  • Currently im most confused in generating smoth laminar smoke, i searched about some ways like heating mineral oil or baby oil but i want this design to be beginner friendly and non-envasive.
  • Also if i go with the heating methods i would need to somehow cool the smoke to make it laminar since i heard hot air dont flow as smoothly as cold one.

this ss shows one of the problem faced by some fellow peer who also made a wind tunnel.

Things i did -

  • Finalized fan at front to suck smoke
  • Finalized dimensions
  • Finalized sensors to use (yet to find on merchant website)
  • Almost completed power circuit plan

Design

  • i started designing the project like which data’s to measure, their required sensors and documented them in my notebook.

Components

  • made a list of component which im gonna need for BOM

Devlog #4

Sl-OmniTrack V1

  • Today i started working on MVP of this project which is V1, plan for power cirucuit was to use one 18650 battery with MT6508 (not sure about module name hehe) to boost the 3.6v from battery to stable 5v for ESP32-S3, but boost module had some problem.
  • Intial decision to use one battery was due to weight but v1 isnt gonna fly so i used diff plan.
I used 2 batteries with a working buck converter to step down 7.4v to 5v.
  • I also tested my MPU9250 one last time with a diff MCU just to make sure before labelling it as corrected MPU6500

Devlog #3

What i did -

  • Mapped out exact pin layouts of most of the component so i can easily make wiring diagram later
  • Planned power circuit for avionics bay

Devlog #2

What i did -

  • Coded main.cpp to collect every data possible from MPU9250
  • Created a test.cpp which can be used to test physical wiring , connection , component’s health for every sensors include MCU of this project all from a single code
  • Added toggle code so i can toggle on/off which sensors to test

Constraints -

  • During using my test code, it found that my MPU9250 doesnt have magnomete so basically i got ripped off by seller and its just a MPU6500🥲

Next Goal -

  • See if i can get some more fund so i can buy original MPU9250
  • Refine my test code more so i can use it in future for other project too since its working great and found reality of my IMU
  • Complete my main.cpp to collect data from EVERY sensors instead of just IMU

This might get long…. I was working on this project since 20th June but was on macondo event, so here is whole devlog from start to end of untill now.
I started with learning about sensor fusing algos. Then learned about Euler angles but found they have cons like gimbal lock so decided on using quanterions. Even after these i have worked so much but couldn’t log them. Also you can use my github commit history.
