Sideline is an AI-powered coaching assistant that helps sports coaches capture voice observations during games without taking their eyes off the action. Coaches can quickly voice-record notes, which are transcribed and organized into actionable insights for film review and time-outs. The biggest challenge was designing a workflow that coaches could actually use in the middle of a match while integrating speech recognition and AI summarization. I'm most proud that our app has already been tested by our school's varsity volleyball team during live playoff matches, and their feedback has already changed how we're improving the product. If you'd like to test it, create a game session, record a few coaching observations, and explore the AI-generated summaries. We'd love to hear your feedback!

Over the past few months, my friend Sid and I have been building Sideline, an AI-powered coaching assistant for sports teams.

The idea came from a simple question: How do coaches remember everything they notice during a game?

During every volleyball rally, there are dozens of tiny observations (ie blocking timing, serve receive, positioning, communication) but once the match ends, many of those details disappear.

We wondered if there was a faster way than clipboards or typing notes.

So we built Sideline.

During a match, coaches can quickly record voice observations. After the game, those recordings are automatically transcribed (using Whisper) and organized into summaries (using Groq) they can review or share with their team.

The coolest part is that we’ve already had our school’s volleyball coaching staff test it during real playoff matches. One surprising thing we learned is that they used it less for player feedback and more for tracking opponent weaknesses, which we didn’t expect.

We’re joining Hack Club Stardance to keep improving the app and continue learning modern web development. Looking forward to sharing our progress over the next few weeks.

Note: we just made our landing page! Find it at: https://sideline-ai.pages.dev/.
