Gearbox Work Part 1
Did alot of work on the gearbox but eventually ended up deleting 2 gears, realised that the shifting mechansim was just based on two little inserts that lock under the gear, silly me, under high speeds that will crack almost instantly, so i will implement the shifting tecnique they use in cars with teeth locking into other teeth

Devlog #2

I (Hopefully) learnt how to use markdown

What I did today 😸:

•Today I finished off the cad designs by adding 3mm holes for where mounts and etc go for M3 screws (3mm)

•Now although this may seem like simple work i can assure you it was not, as i had to expertly place the holes in strategic places so it doesnt crack easily, So basically most time was spent procrastinating and evaporating as its currently like 28°c in the UK.

•Also kinda found suspension links shocks motor battery mounts screws receiver servo axles. But that will be submitted on the Github BOM later!!

-What’s next:

•Drivetrain Design (Gearbox etc)
•Add parts to the BOM, and properly journal (is this journaling???)
•Final simulation
•ASSEMBLY!!

Devlog #1
What i did today 😸
today i did the basic cad designs of the side rails of the crawler (if you are not sure what a crawler is its basically a rc offroad expedition-y vehicle that has high toque and power to climb rocks and obstancles, basically a scale down remote controlled truck)

I realised after a while that the 12mm i had the chassis vertical width or whatever was far too small, and at high speed bumps, the aluminium/stainless steel will crack over time, decreasing the longetivity, so thats why i increased it to 20-25 mmon certain points, and even higher on joints and bends because thats whel most stress will be exerted. see below in red:

Whats next??

-Adding cutouts for links and shocks

-Designing drivetrain

-Choosing electronics: Battery motor reciever transmitter servos etc

-Assembling maybe!?!?!

Okay so my back doesnt hurt today :yayayayayay:


I worked on the wing and installed the ESCs, tested the motors using pixhawk and they both respond properly :yayayayayay:


I do have a little concern as the ESCs are getting slightly warm, i did remove the rubber like i did on my older ESC, that doesnt seem to make it any better, the ready to sky esc i used earlier didnt have this heating problem, idk whats going on, i hope it js doesnt end bad :fear:


The good news is that i installed servos and their linkages to the alerons, i will have a flaperon configuration for nice low effort flaps.


Today the aircrafts weight is 560gs without the battery, so im assuming this will be around 750-800 grams with the 1500 3s lipo


Istg i hate soldering these thick wires, its js so tedious :heavysob:

Nexi Devlog — 13/06/2026

Progress Update

  • Began moving from concept into actual schematic and system design
  • Focused on turning the idea of Nexi into something physically buildable

What’s Been Done

  • Defined Nexi as a rover-style companion bot
  • Confirmed use of a 4 wheel independent drive system
  • Each wheel will have its own motor for precise control
  • Started building and wiring internal modules within the schematic
  • Established basic signal flow between components

Design Decisions

  • Chose independent wheel drive instead of traditional steering

  • This allows:

    • Turning on the spot
    • Better movement in tight spaces
    • Easier recovery from difficult positions
  • This approach makes Nexi more flexible for exploration

Current State

  • Core modules are now placed and wired in the schematic
  • Overall system structure is beginning to take shape
  • Ready to move into control and logic implementation

Next Steps

  • Add control signals such as clock and enable
  • Implement output handling and selection logic
  • Begin integrating sensors for environmental scanning
  • Start designing the display system for Nexi’s face
  • Test basic movement logic

Notes

  • The project is becoming more complex than originally planned, but this is intentional
  • Nexi is designed to be both functional and expressive, not just a simple robot
  • Long term goals still include interaction with the environment and basic object manipulation
