I made Nyapkin!! It’s my first Slack bot and has three commands: /nyapkin-ping, /nyapkin-help, and /nyapkin-catfact.

It can check its response time, show all its commands, and give random cat facts!

To be honest, making this run 24/7 was probably the hardest part since my computer just WASN’T cooperating and had to download and update so many things-. I also had this annoying problem where all the bot’s messages were only visible to me, so I had to go back, fix the code, and redeploy everything, and my git would have a meltdown everytime I tried anything too aghh.

I’m really proud that I managed to get it working because I’ve never deployed a Slack bot like this before!! And now it actually stays online even when my laptop is off (To be fair, that’s actually preetttyy cool) :D

To test Nyapkin, you can go to the linked Hack Club Slack channel (it’s the bot-spam) and try /nyapkin-ping, /nyapkin-help, or /nyapkin-catfact!

uhh js made my first slack bot!! i named it nyapkin because i wanted to make a cute little cat bot :3

so far i added 3 commands: one that checks the bot’s latency, one that lists all the commands, and one that gives you random cat facts using an API!!

this took way more troubleshooting than i expected lmao. first npm wasn’t working, then i had issues with git, and then my commands just refused to respond even though the bot was running 😭 but i eventually figured everything out and got all 3 commands working!!

i also learned how to use .env files to keep my tokens private and how to push my code to github!

i’m still waiting for my nest application to get approved so i can host nyapkin 24/7. i definitely wanna add more commands later, especially cute interactions like hugs and headpats!!
