DEVLOG 36 - Black Hole!
Hi Stardance!
Intro
I’ve been working really hard lately, and I think I’ve reached a milestone with Eve that I honestly never expected to hit. The project is finally complete; now I just need to click that nice button to ship it. I’ve spent this time working on the README, improving the documentation, fixing bugs, and building a demo using Eve.
Eve Demo
The demo is a gravity simulation featuring hundreds of thousands of entities orbiting a black hole. You can tweak various parameters—such as time, the black hole’s gravitational pull, lighting, colors, meshes, and much more. If you’d like to test it out, you can find it in the GitHub releases; there’s a ready-to-use .exe, or the source code if you’re on Linux—or if you simply want to understand how Eve works or make some modifications yourself.
Problems Encountered
While building the demo, I ran into—and have since resolved—some very frustrating bugs, such as memory corruption in the ECS caused by the continuous creation and destruction of entities and their components. I also added UI text support and implemented the ability to register “stages” belonging to classes or structs that can be called by the engine.
