Day 5 of making Gravitas

Officially completed Phase 2 ❤️‍🩹🔥

Highlight

  • Added horizontal rotation to camera
  • Added interesting values to the bodies.

That is, while testing with different values, just for fun, I discovered something weird, but interesting….
.

But yeah, that means from tomorrow I’ll officially be able to start Phase 3, aka, generalizing it to N body instead of just 2, and adding many more features…!
.
That’s all for today 🗿
Thank you…!!

Day 4 of making Gravitas

Highlights

  • Added pause/play feature (pressing space bar)
  • Added reset feature (pressing R)
  • Added a movable camera. (WASD)
  • Made the cam move relative to the target.
  • Removed adjustable dt from goals as it’s practically useless in phase 2.

And now, the real simulator shall start gettin built🗿

Looks like the addiction has turned towards obsession 🗿✌🏻

Day 3 of making Gravitas

Yesterday, I was up till about 5 in the morning, learning about different functions of cpp and their implementations so I could add more features.
.
Along with that, yesterday after posting the devlog, I actually was able to render the thing in 3D, but it was rather bland, simply two blue bodies orbiting each other.
.
Though, today, I was finally able to make them have trails , which took an awful lot to do so, while making sure it didn’t affect the rendering.
.
That is, because the trails were simply compounding over time and making the simulation slower, or I should say, the rendering slower…
So I used a clever trick (after trying like, 3-4 of them which didn’t work) to fix the issue.
.
But all in all, it worked 🐈
(even though only for a fixed amount of time 😭, I’ll fix it completely/professionally later on)
.
Next Steps:

  • Make the camera movable
  • Add Pause/play type of controls
  • Add adjustable dt

.
P.S. I also added more files to make the project be more structured, with different cpp and header files handling different function of the simulation…
.
This project is perhaps the coolest things I’ve ever worked on in my entire life…. 🔥

Looks like someone’s addicted to a project 🗿✌🏻

Day 2 of making Gravitas:

  • Added Vector arithmetic functions
  • Added Symplectic Euler Integration as a base to do the calculations.
  • Updated the readme and added different feature phases.
  • aka done with Phase 1

Next Step:

  • Render it 3D.
  • aka begin Phase 2

Following the laws of conservation of Mental sanity, I believe that’s enough programming for the day lol…
Or maybe not? 💀
.
Haha, let’s see how much can I get done before the day ends 🔥
.
P.S. Please ignore the warnings of C++ in CLion rn, as I’m still a beginner and learning while building. 🥹
So I’ll likely fix them once I know those concepts. 🗿🤷🏻‍♂️

Day 1 of making Gravitas:
.
Done with:
.
Readme.md
Setting up CLion as Mac doesn’t have VisualStudio
Setting up the repo.
Setting up a basic testing structure for main.cpp
.
The readme provides a clean structure of what I’m up to and my future plans with this project if someone’s interested 🐈
https://github.com/Alchemic-Eclipse/gravitas

And that’s all for today ig..?
As I also have many other things to do in life rn (including study), so I’ll be making this project step by step everyday…!
.
Chasing progress over perfection 🙃
Thank you..!!
