Devlog 2: Buddy v1 Pre-Release Teaser
Check out the video below if you want to see the prerelease working in action
Recap for New comers
Buddy is a Desktop AI assistant/agent that fetches info and runs commands on your computer (Mac specifically, others will come soon). But at first it was just a terminal assistant but one of you guys in slack said i should make a good gui for it like a nice cool user interface for it.
and so…
This is what i did
I made a a base kind of back end and then extracted the terminal stuff and put it in to main.py and i made a bare bones window interface that displays the same stuff as the terminal one but does it in like a kind of messaging way
i had claude, gemini, and github copilot refine the looks a bit cause to be honest i could have never gotten such a cool look by my self. I imagined it but didnt know how to do it
Although before the ui i added spotify controls, gmail automation, and imessage automations. so it can easily draft mails (Google does not want agents to have that much control they can only draft and sending you have to do), send messages
Next?
- Chat names - Like the name of your chat history based on first prompt
- More tools - Actually recieving info from the internet not just headlines, and more automations
- Context caching - Saves tokens
- RAG (Retrieval Augmented Memory (i think thats what it stands for, you gotta double check))

Can it interact with all applications or just chrome? looks cool!
@Cassetu it can do chrome, safari, it uses duckduckgo to fetch active info from the internet (free search engine) . rn it can basically do everything with the run command function but it isnt aware it can do everything and also it doesent know the best command to use. For Example i can open chrome using the dock or finder or terminal. it has a hard time figuring out what to use. Do you get it? its a bit complicated
@Shreyansh I got it, the explanation is gud :D
