Lesson: Don’t work too long

I made this catastrophic mistake of working a little too much to the point where I maxed out 10 hours of my work and plus 1hr 30mins extra.

And I’m really sorry for it :sorry:

What did I do?

mostly this time was spent working on the 3D models, the map and learning some Three.js as I build this (hope so) masterpiece of a game.

Nothing really new to be honest, and the new stuff might spoil the game so I think this is where I zip it.

Gonna try to share some in-game content pretty soon without spoiling anything, enjoy the map’s screenshots until then!

Construct 711: The Cameo with Aegis Omnicorp

So I continued further building the world, in the process as asual I
grabbed a cool render to show y’all.

Getting the lighting right, making the lake in the map, adding some NPCs was the work I did.

Honestly the challenge here was to align stuff to the stories goals, to
not to overdo anything, and to keep the narrative cool as always.

Follow and Show some support <3

Peace.

Stardance has an issue and it’s reducing my points :cryin:

I’ve been consistently trying to post a devlog for my project, I’ve accumulated over 8 hours of work and the devlog just won’t go live.

According to the rule you’re only paid out for upto 10 hours of devlog, and you’re optimally supposed to log every 2-4 hours, I’ve literally doubled the ceiling.

That said it’s also asked to keep your logs short. :fahh:

I am not even sure if this one is gonna go through, nonetheless, here is a progress update:

The map

The maps is now in the works and we have the main HQ, fantasy land and a megbuilding ready, a lot more’s left to do though! this took me over 3-4 hours of work alone, and here’s a tip for building maps:

Use linked duplicates instead of copy pasting assets!

The code

Completed a basic Three.js game, nothing special here, the challenge was mastering the basics and refreshing my memory really (these aren’t even real challenges but that’s all it was).

Peace.

When the game feels home

A quick teaser of my work and in game progress…

What’s done:

By now I’ve collected the base layer of assets, I had underestimated the amount of assets I’ll need and looks like there’s tons more to go. Hence I won’t waste time yapping here XD (looks like I am though)

As a spoiler this car belongs to Hamada, you’ll know him soon

The quality

Bringing good quality to browser won’t be easy, I estimate the game to be anywhere from 3-5GB in total size, hence optimization will remain a crucial metric, with that said I guess I should get back to work ;)

There’s a problem with game dev - and not enough ppl are talking about it!

Assets one of the core components or any game in my opinion, because if you don’t have the right assets, the game is gonna feel half-baked, it’s gonna have the lack of quality and direction.

Think about it, no gamer is pointing out that, “well the game is not having good assets” They’re instead just gonna call it unpolished and incoherent.

Where I got my assets?

Since Quality was a strict promise of this game, Asset scouting wasn’t easy, specially when you add the tag “FREE” in search results, turbosquid had some good ones, Sketchfab - by far was THE BEST source.

Tip: Make sure to watch out for the licensing for the assets, and start keeping a attribution record early on, or else you’re gonna cry hard.

And that’s kind of what I wanted to call out, yep assets for a big challenge but 30mins of research off-camera and a 1hr timelapse, yep that got me mostly sorted!

Attached below is the game’s intro for the fun of it!

Peace.

Project - Slow Burn

Here, I announce a AA-game, that entirely runs on your BROWSER.

Yes, your browser and I promise, it’s not gonna be bad or I’ll not redeem anything from Stardance. I take an oath hereby.

The idea

The idea of the game is simple, it’s a game in the Cyberpunk genre, I have the story but I don’t wanna spoil it yet.

The game was made using Three.js and thanks to the community tons of free online 3D assets.

Use of AI

I also hereby declare the use of AI. I also promise that it’s use was only limited to:

  • debugging in places I couldn’t myself.
  • to enhance the story/narrative of game.
  • to set daily goals and targets :)
