Shipping is hours away now! I must admit that I’ve been a little lazy for the last two weeks and thus the demo has not been released yet and I’m a little afraid if I will be able to get all the necessary votes before 30th Sep.
I took five topics that were bothering me:
- go to path like url bar in windows explorer
- finishing basic git operations with commit modal
- overhauling slightly abandoned listView
- advanced search panel with many options
- settings window
And yet I had so much time to figure them out I couldn’t finish more than three… well two actually. ListView overhaul went… bad. I’ll have to make it from the very beginning but I do not have time for that now.
I am not very satisified that I have to ship a software that has not been brought to a state where I would originally want to release it, but I am still really happy for what have I achieved. This was my second Swift project and first that big project at all! I’ve been learning everything about native macOS programming during the development. Thus I am really proud of myself.
What I’ve done
- goToPath modal with autocompletion based on the mechanism used in file searching (revelance tiers)
- git commit modal with options based on the one from vscode
- core of listView rework which currently serves as an entry point to every new approach I am testing to make most of functionalities from gridView work also in listView (I am never leaving such a big technical debt in any project)
What I’ve learned
- technical debt awareness
- deep understanding of git CLI
Difficulties
Of course the already mentioned listView and more specifically: columns and their resizement, active element area (because I wanted the element to be selected only when clicked on text and the empty area acts as background), additional columns adding, sorting by column.
App sandboxing which caused many problems with release version comparing to debug version which appeared to be my mistake in implementation.
So I am heading back to the last checklist elements and around 11PM CEST there should appear a shipping. Oh I have to write something for a shipping message… Maybe 1AM tomorrow? I don’t know, as soon as I can so there will be time to receive and give votes. See ya then! I am so excited!
