I am making a fully autonomous cat food feeder for my cat that precisely dispenses the food the right amount at the right time of day

So far, on coding, I’ve started up some of the features of the user interface.

  • I’ve coded up the setup for the voice narrated settings with the Talkie PCM library
  • I’ve finished the buttons logic to cycle through the menus
  • Revised the settings menu layout to be more navigatable
  • Working on the actual editing of each setting

I finally got the whole 3d model done and printed and started on the electronics part.

  • Since I did not add enough space to store the electronics I 3d modeled a part that attaches to the back and stores the electronics. It also has holes for the buttons and speaker and cord.

  • to prevent harm to my cat I cut up a ziploc bag and put the pieces along the walls of where the cat food is being stored so no filament will get in the cat food

  • I got most of the soldering done and started coding. there will be two buttons on the back and you press them to set the time you want it to dispense the cat food the speaker tells you what time you have set.

I finally got a new 3d printer and printed some of the parts on it :D

I worked for six hours and finally got the mechanism to work and completed 90% of the 3d model

  • I finally got most of the 3d modeling done and did some test prints with the new food safe filament I got

  • I did some testing with the mechanism and I confirmed that the mechanism does work (I think)

  • I started the first print today and hopefully it works 🤞(it’s ten hours long)

Today I stared on my first project, an automated cat feeder.

  • At first I thought of making the dispensing mechanism was just a door that opened and closed but the problem with that was it wasn’t precise enough and would likely get jammed. So I went for a different approach, a rotating wheel that could dispense the cat food in measurable increments.

  • I also did all the measurements for the dimensions of the cat feeder so everything would fit in place.

  • I also did a lot of research on food safe filaments and what kinds of motors to get to make the product actually function.

I am really happy with the work I got done today and hopefully by the next devlog I will have the majority of the mechanism working.
