Devlog #9: Starting to Fly Again
Hello everyone! I’m finally making another devlog for Olympus. I took a break because I went on vacation and I didn’t feel motivated to start coding again. But now, I’m ready to show you the new things I’ve created. When I was looking at the code, I realized that I never added functionality to export a game. If you wanted to share your game with someone, you would have to send them your entire code and then make them install Python, Olympus, and it’s a huge deal just to play your game. So, I’ve implemented a game exporter!
How it works
So I used PyInstaller to make this work. Basically, when you export your game, PyInstalled will “freeze” your program. This means that it will trace every import your game makes, gathers all of your assets (your code, the Python interpreter, olympus, numpy, Pillow, PySDL2) and then packs it into one self-contained bundle. And that’s your game!
What’s Next?
Honesty, I have no idea. I’m planning on adding mouse implementation but it depends on what I’m feeling like doing. See you later!
Below is a simple snake game that I created and it was created and exported by Olympus Engine.
