OPENDAW
What is OpenDAW?
OpenDAW is a free, opensource digital audio workstation built with python designed to make music production simple, lightweight and easy to use. It’s a desktop application that combines every producer’s dream tools.
FEATURES
OpenDAW Supports multitrack audios, allowing users to add multiple recordings and audio files in a timeline, move and trim tracks, change volume and panning, rename and color tracks and it can even split tracks at the playhead. It also has recording support for microphone input, making it possible to record directly into a project.
For MIDI composition, OpenDAW includes a Piano Roll with note placement, movement, resizing, velocity control, quantization, multiple instruments, and MIDI controller input. A Chord Maker allows users to easily generate different chord types and add them to the Piano Roll. The Drum Beat Maker provides an easy to use sequencer for creating drum patterns.
The application also includes an effects system for processing tracks, along with a mastering section for processing the final mix.
Other tools include looping, markers, BPM control, project saving and loading, autosave, undo and redo, timeline zoom, and WAV export. OpenDAW also includes a Python-based plugin system, allowing the project to be extended with additional functionality.
The goal of OpenDAW is not to compete with large commercial DAWs in size but to provide a free opensource alternative letting users experiment even on the most basic of devices.
