Finished the Firmware and got my project ready to ship. I’m completely ready to ship right now but I don’t see why on earth we are required to record a video of our project working IN REAL LIFE as a demo.. BEFORE we get the materials to MAKE our project IN REAL LIFE? Kind of redundant if you ask me I would have been done by now but this strange type of logic is holding me back. Claude was a great help in making and troubleshooting my firmware. Feeling pretty good about my work so far.

NOTE: Also Mods remember to add the 4h and 42min from my last post I spoke about.

Today I finished the 3D Case Design and the KiCAD Board Design.

There’s an important issue that happened whilst I was recording lapses for sessions today. While I was working on the hackpad I accidentally closed the lookout tab with the lapse interface twice, in one session for 2 hours and 1 minute and in another session for 2 hours and 41 minutes. I tried to re-open the lookout tab but it didn’t retain the data and didn’t offer any prompt or message or button to submit my actual lapse to stardance with a devlog as I’m doing now. So both of those lapses are stuck on the lookout desktop app with no way to export them at all. I’m saying this for a reviewer to adjust this project’s overall hours and grant me the 4 hours and 42 minutes worth of time I spent working manually. Because that’s what they said I should do in the #stardance-help channel.

ANYWAYS, today I worked pretty efficiently and I chose to have the entire design house 12 keys instead of splitting the design into 2 macropads and later joining them for the total 17 keys that’s shown in the HXH phone I’m trying to create. I did this because, for one, splitting the whole design into 2 different macropads would make each separate one look unpolished and ugly, and 2, I like how compact it will appear to be now.

I also decided to have pads on my PCB for RGB LEDS to give the macropad an under-light after I saw other aesthetically pleasing ones in the gallery. Now I’m pretty much ready to request the hackpad kit itself and download firmware onto it.

Also I noticed that every RGB LED has an unnecessary set of 4 errors about edge clearance that aren’t really vital to fix. Which is why I have 48 DRC errors for the 12 RGB lights.

I pulled an all nigher but it was worth it I couldn’t sleep without getting this done. I’m completely done with the PCB section of the hackpad and I’m moving onto CAD and 3D designing the case to hold everything in. I added a 1x3 connector at the top which I hope will be funded by Hack Club it isn’t much it’s just something to enable me to develop this PCB into something more in the future. I’ve had it all planned out and I think it fits the criteria for being funded especially with how cheap these things are. Anyways, next session I plan to start designing the case and everything and really bringing this project to life.

I just now realized that I need my hackpad to be less than 100x100mm so I cut it in half somewhat and reduced the keys from 17 to 12 in order to save space. I put a JST 6-pin connector down so I can add the other 5 keys later on in a separate modular-like hackpad instead. I’m inquiring whether this is allowed or not still but I’m confident it’ll be fine.
