This is my very own OS that can be run in the web!

I built StudentOS, a lightweight macOS-style study dashboard running directly in the browser using pure HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript (no React, build tools, or external libraries). It includes an academic class timetable, a lecture notes app with local storage persistence, a working calculator, a 25-minute Pomodoro study timer, a semester GPA tracker, desktop widgets, and a simple mock bash terminal.

The hardest part was implementing the window dragging and z-index layering from scratch. Early on, moving the mouse too fast caused the cursor to slip off the title bar, so I had to bind the mousemove and mouseup listeners to the document instead of the window header. Getting the calculator arithmetic and the auto-saving notes to work reliably without external libraries also took some trial and error.

I am most proud that the whole system runs locally from static files with zero dependencies. Every window can be dragged and layered independently, and notes and sticky memos stay saved across browser refreshes.

How to test it:

Click the buttons on the bottom dock to open apps (Notes, Planner, Calc, Terminal, GPA, Settings).
Click and drag the title bar of any window to move it around your desktop. Click [X] to close a window.
In Notes, write a note and refresh the page to see it persist.
Open the Terminal and type ‘help’, ‘ls’, ‘whoami’, or ‘date’.
Best experienced on desktop/laptop screens in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
