An alternative to studio-style lighting, easy to make, open source, and gives you more control.
Tried assembling parts 1,2 and 3.
Final touches and now the project is all ready !!yay!! Next, draft a bom.csv to fund.
Made a tonnnnnn of small design changes so that the stuff is correct in real not just CAD ;)
Made the enclosure for the light umbrella. Made it simple: magnet-supported locking and a small chain handle (not attached in the 3d print pic). (4rth pic is assembly of enclosure)
Did some small changes and here are the other 3 pics of the progress in the previous journal entry.
I did many things today and am documenting them in this journal entry. Most of them were design revisions and corrections, along with designing something new.
Designed the tertiary stem for the soft-light umbrella.
Extrude the main slider for the shifters so that the umbrella skeleton can be attached with the help of hooks. This will allow the skeleton to shift easily according to the requirements and adjust the softness of the light behind it. Simultaneously, I tried different spots to attach the hooks and ultimately decided on a 10 mm depth from the extruded surface.
Designed a simple latch mechanism for the shifters to keep them locked in place (along the primary stem). These are small and strong enough to hold the shifters in place against the spring. Feels like good progress :)
After making a strong, clean base & stem, I continued working on the shifters for the umbrella skeleton, whose function is to change the softness of the light as they shift along the primary stem. Two different types of shifters are required for this function, which I just completed.
The main base part and its attachment to the primary stem didn’t seem strong enough and were really bulky, so I totally redesigned it. Now the base and the primary stem are a single part, and the shifters for the umbrella will be supported by a hooked spring and latch mechanism instead of a thread and latch(which was also really doubtful to work).
Devlog 1: Made the base and primary stem for the luminator umbrella.
Project intro: Luminator is an adaptive lighting system engineered to recreate authentic, studio-like light environments in any space, delivering crisp light quality that blends to your needs.
