So I’m super close to being done now and my project is finally about to leave the CAD phase but I need to log my time because apparently only 10 hours will actually be counted. Anyways so, I’ve removed the frame which I spent 3 hours on 😢 but it’s fine cuz it’s all coming together. I decided on the Apogee FAT toolhead after about 3 hours of debate and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Literally all I have left is making the belts and pulleys to move my gantry and choosing a mobo.

In case I don’t, it’s been great working on this project and I’m really happy I got the chance to try something like this.
I didnt expect this to take so long but the outer frame is FINALLY done. Now I just need to work on adding the hardware which could take another 3-6 hours 😅.
Pretty self explanatory but I built the frame which my 3d printer will fit in and also did a little research into how I can fit the extrusions together. (Yes, I KNOW I SPENT 3 HOURS MAKING A CUBE, I’m still new to CAD so I haven’t got the hang of it yet)
I’ll try finish it later today and collect my bill of materials to get my parts in.
P.S. Does anyone know if writing a Bill of Materials can be recorded as extra time or not? I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be but I just wanna be careful.

I’ve been REALLY lazy with this project and haven’t done a lot because I can’t be bothered to learn CAD. BUT TRUST ME I’M LOCKED IN NOW. I’ve started to motivate myself a bit more and I’m finally picking up speed.
I’ve been using onshape and until 10 minutes ago didnt really get how it worked. I’ve finally figured out the huge mistake I was making which was stopping me from selecting my sketches and I’m really embarrassed that such a big problem came from me not dragging one component down.
I need to make the frame for outlining my build and figure out how I’ll be connecting everything together.
Okay that was corny… just forget that happened. but seriously please make sure to follow my project, I would be over the moon. Or should I say… over the stars.
By the way, BEHOLD THE FRUITS OF MY 1 HOUR OF LABOUR. A SINGLE ALUMINIUM EXTRUSION.

This is my first devlog of hopefully many as I start work on my design for a 3D Printer. I’ve had this idea for a while now and I’m really excited to finally get the chance to bring this into the real world. I’ve spent a lot of time before joining stardance researching about types of 3d printers and their movement systems for this project which has definitely involved lot of just bouncing my ideas off Gemini to see why it might fail. I also know that AI isn’t the best place to get ideas and a lot of the time it can make mistakes which is why I’d be super grateful if someone more experienced could point out any problems and mistakes I might have made as well as anything I forgot to think about.
Recently I’ve been working on figuring out how I can attach my lead screws for my Z Axis to the rest of my frame. While I’m still not completely sure about it, I did manage to find a 3D model for a lead screw to linear rail “converter”. If anybody who sees this knows anything about a simpler way to do this, please give a quick reply to this post because that would save my life.

Note-I don’t think I can post this without a picture so I’ve attached a super quick design from tinkercad. I need to install the cooling system back in my laptop so haven’t been able to use any CAD software until that’s done.
