File For FIle is my local suite of to convert files and just other utilities i use everyday, such as a basic background removal tool, encouraged to make by constant usage limits and just rly unwilling to use with priv docs.

Ship #1 Pending review

I made a local python based WINDOWS ONLY file converter!
QoL improvement and problem being solved -> dont have to upload docs to sketch websites i dont trust.
It can run in the background, in system tray, can be used from file explorer, can bulk convert, stores history, can choose where to export, runs in your browser of choice, so can act like a tab if u wanna drag+drop like the sites (although sketch, they are convinient)

i worked for a while on an “image tool”, basically an ms paint recreation, but wasnt able to create what i wanted, and felt the tool wasnt appropriate for the project. Also tried making diff UIs (e.g. one in sc, but it didnt use up all the space)
made it so you can add/remove multpiple files (had it beofre but could only add at once, and remove whole list), added a history where you could open the files directly or del from history
and wrote all the descriptions for the files
I think im ready to ship! now js have to think abt how to ship

Lots of work done! now i can activate the script and convert right in file explorer, got a tray icon too when its active! the settings page now shows where converted files go to, toggle keeping the script running, light/dark mode and to remove/add this file explorer integration!
when you use this with a file, that file is automatically selected, ready to convert!
file descriptions and image editing tools up next!

nearly done with the convert page.
i dont remember what i did last devlog, but i added drag and drop functionality, removed it thinking that loading large files to browser memory isnt a good idea, readded it after thinking about how often ill use it for small files like images.
getting basics down for now

Made a good-for-now conversion table list and basic funtions for them (no actual conversions yet).
Sc shows the browser frontend, however i wanted it to act like a browser tab for convinience (can bookmark and switch/drag over files). However the python script wld have to be running all the time (not ideal) since the page cant start the script itself :(
