Learning CAD for the case (Macropad/hackpad)

I have been designing my case for the macropad i’m building in CAD (onshape, as I am a bit more familiar with the software over Fusion or Solidworks). I am having a bit of trouble getting everything to fit within tolerance, but I have found a work around solution. More designing tomorrow.

PCB Routing + Finish PCB Design

I routed the PCB together and I finished the PCB design. Now I need to create the case in CAD software, then write the firmware. Hopefully I can finish both tomorrow.

To route the PCB, I used 2 layers. The OLED, switch matrix, and rotary encoder are all on the front, while the microcontroller and diodes are in the back. This allows me to have a more clean design.

Hackpad blog 2: Finished Schematic, working on routing PCB.

So far i have finished the schematic. I decided to delete the 2nd rotary encoder since I don’t see a justification for using it, as the first rotary is enough. Now, I need to learn to route the PCB, as well as align it nicely. Hopefully, I’ll be able to finish the PCB design soon. Then I will design the CAD case, then create the firmware.

Hackpad blog: Currently working on adding parts to the schematic.

I am either going to go with 9 keys in a 3x3 matrix, or the 3x3 matrix with the addition of 2 rotary encoders and the OLED screen. After I’m done wiring everything, I will route the PCB together.
