My very own WebOS

This is my very own OS that can be run in the web!

Ship #2

I basically built a little computer that lives in one browser tab.
It is called breadboardOS. The whole desktop looks like a real solderless breadboard: cream board, red and blue power rails, black chip icons, that warm amber glow. No frameworks, no server. Just HTML, CSS, and a pile of JavaScript. I open the file and it boots.
Inside it there is a proper window manager, a start menu, a taskbar, files that actually save, a notepad, a terminal with history, a calculator, paint, snake, a scope, a tiny synth, a clock, sticky notes, a calendar with day notes, unit conversion and a password generator, settings, the works. There is even a browser that does not pretend iframes work everywhere. It has a reader mode so pages can actually show up. And there is a bug that lives on the desktop, follows the cursor, gets hungry, and I can feed it.
What was hard was mostly the boring but real stuff. Getting a browser to work when half the internet refuses to load inside an iframe. Editing a giant single file without breaking the whole thing. I did break it once with a syntax error in the middle of a string. Keeping the look exactly the same while bolting on a ton of new behavior. Making data stick around after a refresh without any backend.
What was fun was the theme actually landing. It does not feel like a generic web demo with a skin on it. The power rail as a taskbar, the chips as icons, the square wave beeps: it holds together. The bug is ridiculous and kind of perfect. Opening the scope next to the synth feels right for something that pretends it is electronics. And the fact that the entire OS is one file I can just open is still a good joke.
So yeah: a small self contained desktop with a strong personality, built the hard way, and somehow still charming.
