A portable mp3 player integrated with a Tamagtochi-like companion. music helps me be more productive and lively, however my school has confiscated our phones this semester and ive been struggling to focus. So instead of buying a mp3 player, i've decided to take matters into my own hands a build myself my very own custom MP3 player.

DEVLOG 07

did 2 seperate sessions accross the weekend around 5 hours each. I tried creating this display when music plays.
I aimed for this classic vinyl record that spins whenever an mp3 file is playing!

New Features!

  • A round display for each album/track (builds assets from a py file importing from json file to translate to cpp for all of the albums)
  • Spins when u play, stops when you pause
  • Snap back animation when it replays.

A couple pushbacks during these session

Had ALOT of debugging during this and SO much things were wrong

  • Initially I neglected the pins definition and started placing wires randomly without double checking each GPIO capabilities; so i had to rewire a couple thing
  • TX / RX were swapped
  • The color saturation were so messed up
  • Alot of typos and error during build assets

DEVLOG #06

Today my TFT Round display came! so i replaced my stinky old oled screen with this fancy shamcy new TFT Round display!

Since it requires more pins and my current layout very tight, i rewired a bunch of stuff to free up space to integrate the tft display module

I also started working on creating my initial faces on Lopaka, havent really understood the website but ill get around it.

Next ill target purely to complete a new animation folder with smoother animation and brighter colors!

DEVLOG #05

Liked up all the animation files to the buttons.
basically build.assets -> writes animation assets -> runs .ino file

I divided animations into 3 groups:

  1. Idle (Blinking, Winking, Looking Around)
  2. Interactive (Affection, More Affection, Winking)
  3. Transitions (Transitions from Tamagotchi to Music section, i made a transition animation for this but idk how to show it 😭 )

DEVLOG #04 Made 6 folders handling animations for the OLED Tamagotchi side of this Project!

Started off with trying to configure the original face and dividing it into multiple sprites and animating from there via python. BUT turns out you could just animate the entire thing with https://oled-pixel-studio.netlify.app which is awesome

At the end it resulted in these 6 folders!

Animation Folders include:

  1. Idle Blinking Animation
  2. Interactive Winking Animation
  3. Interactive Affection Animation: showcase this fuzzy face down here!
  4. Additional Interactive Fuzzy face with hearts around it
  5. Transition from Idle Face -> Music Face
  6. Transition from Music Face -> Melody Emblem

Unfortunately the .gif files got corrupted :<
but the you could check these files out at my github repo under the Tamagotchi Branch and OLED Animation folder!
