A short 2D horror animation that follows a middle aged man who is haunted by a nearly perfect copy of him as he goes through his day in a strange, dull world.

Ship #1 Pending review

The Thin Man is a short 2D horror animation that follows a middle aged man who is haunted by a nearly perfect copy of him as he goes through his day in a strange, dull world. Through the thin man's character, I wanted to convey the feeling you get when someone does something you didn't want them to do, when someone else is making choices for you. That's exactly what this animation is showing, a man watching in betrayal as a near perfect copy of him takes his life, ignoring the tolls it takes on his person.

I finished doing the sound today! I was recording my microwave for an airy, static sound. After testing out different sounds and doing more recording, I finally have the audio for my animation down!

I added some sounds to my animation, I’ve been trying to look for free ambient music I can add but I couldn’t find anything free. Besides the music, I also need the sound of a static TV.

Finished the sketch for my next scene, later today I’ll animate it. I only have 2 scenes left to animate including this one, once I’m done, I’ll go and add sound

So far, animating my characters consistently has been quite the challenge. I keep trying to keep their facial features as consistent as possible but as this project goes on I keep make subconscious changes to their designs. Currently working on making this character look older :/

The next scene I animated takes place at night which is always fun to draw. I tried to make the scene look shiny but still dark to have that moonlight kind of feel.

started animating my next scene, I was too lazy to draw the same character again in the exact same position so I screenshotted him from a previous scene and traced him.

The next scene I need to animate needs a walk cycle so luckily I can just reuse my walking animation from another scene, I just need to draw in the background. I now only have 3 scenes left

10 out of 14 scenes done! Can’t wait to finish this animation. The next few scenes are going to be pretty simple then after animating those I need to work on the sound

I’ve tried animating my camera in blender 2d animation before but I’ve never really understood it. Today I caved and watched a tutorial so what I was trying to learn on my own for almost this entire week was learned in a few minutes :\

Today I finished animating my 6th scene and I have 14 planned. Honestly, I feel that that’s not so bad considering I have summer camp for most of this week. Also today I did an incredible feat and saved my work properly.

Today I noticed a problem with the audio, it wasn’t playing through my laptop’s speakers but it worked when I plugged headphones in. I found out because blender as a default was exporting the audio as stereo, when I changed it to mono, the sound effects were audible through my laptop speakers. I also accidentally deleted one of my blender files today, so I can’t change that part of the animation unless I want to restart :(

Today I animated the inside of a car and when I had checked my storyboard, I realized that I didn’t account for the road moving outside of the car. I fixed that because it would look weird if the windows of the car just showed one solid color. I’m happy with how the scene turned out, can’t wait to put it all together. For the sound of the car moving, my best idea so far is to record myself pushing my chair on its wheels across the room really fast so I’ll do that soon. I also need to record the sound of footsteps for a previous scene.

I was animating a character walking and messed up the order of some keyframes so I had to delete some of them. I then remembered I wanted the shading to subtly change as the change as the character moved so I had to go back and edit my walk cycle keyframes. I also had some trouble keeping the characters speed at the same rate while he was walking. Eventually I finished the walk cycle and now Ican move on to some final touches like animating the Thin Man’s eyes following the walking man.
