A mock up of what a Mars colony could look like.
A mock up of what a Mars colony could look like.
I removed the supports from the dome I 3d printed before and there was lots of scarring and it did not look good. I decided to reprint it in a different printer as well as me scaling it up a bit. I then painted it white as the base layer before I will paint it a different color like orange ( I haven’t decided yet). I am going to let the white dry before I give the outside another layer of white. After that drys I will do the same thing for the inside before painting it all the final color.
I made everything else needed for the water system for the colony. Now I just need to do the energy and print every thing before I can start building.
I printed the fan and when I tried to take it off the bed the supports ripped off the blades. I made the blades for the fan larger as well as making them 1 mm thicker so that hopefully they do not snap off when I try to take it off the bed. Once I slice and print the water purification system and print the new garden dome and change the settings (if needed, hopefully not) I will post the slicer settings I used for the dome, fan and purification box.
My dome failed on 3d printing so I added supports and made it even smaller since I don’t have that much filament. I also turned on adhesion to help ensure it doesn’t fail again. I also printed the water purification system and the holes were too small so I made the holes a bit larger. After I print the fan and make any adjustments needed I will move on to another part of the colony.
I started 3d printing my dome, I had also made the fan the same percentage as the dome but because it was so small the preview wasn’t working so I changed it back to normal. I did final changes on the fan like infill so when taking supports off it hopefully wouldn’t break the propellers. I also added some air vents on the water purification system I made, then sliced and saved that. I also made a list of what I changed in settings for each print so I can include it in my README.
I was able to take my first 3d models and slice them to prepare them for 3d printing. I had to shrink my dome from what I had wanted since it would take way too long. I also started on the system for water purification, I forgot to mention none of the parts will actually work they are just representations.
Next I am going to design the rest of the water system and start printing those out. I also need to design how they will get energy.
I I made a dome for the garden on the mars colony and spent a while adding divots as mars like texture. I also left the fan I made last time too big so I resized that.
I made a 3d model of some miniature fans for the garden since there will be no wind to push the air around.
