Poco (Pocket Companion) is finally built and programmed! The way it works is when connected, the device automatically launches the main app, and you can see the date and time, as well as your current main goal and the options for you to choose on the device by pressing the keys on the keyboard. First, there’s “g” for goals, where you can see your current goals and create new ones to keep track of them so you can keep them away from your phone where you can get distracted. Then, there’s J for journaling, where you can make entries and write about your day to disconnect. Finally, there’s “S” for suggestions, where the device suggests activities for you to do instead of scroll on your phone. Finally, there’s “C” for check-in, where you check in with the device for some advice! This way, people can actually complete their goals and not spend their time on their phones all day. Especially for teenagers like the ones participating in Stardance, and during summer, this way prevents mental health issues and boredom. For this device I used a Raspberry Pi 4, a touch screen display, a mini keyboard, and a power bank. And the programming was done on GitHub and on a code prompt on my Dell computer, which was then transmitted to the pi through wifi, but the device itself, after the coding is done, does not need wifi to work. Also, this took about 2 days of work, and I was using HackaTime to time it, but my computer died and the HackaClub timer glitched, and it only says 52 minutes were done, and I don’t know how to add more time on it.
